Just a gentle reminder that forum protocols do not permit us to discuss the Fundraiser in the CHIL forum. We would be happy to answer any questions here at the IWS Eagle Forum. |

Deb, I am so sorry about the passing of little Bugsie. You understood him so well. He sounds like a very special birdie, friendly, cheerful, funny, and a dedicated mate to Moty. Thinking of you today.

Eaglepedia Revisited June 4, 2007 Part II - If the eagle parent manages to stay on the nest (some are pushed off and sent scrambling), the eaglet will whine loudly until the adult leaves. After snatching the food away, the eaglet may turn and crouch over the food with wings spread wide (mantling) to hide the food. The eaglet will mantle in response to a parent, a sibling or on occasion, to a human in the nest. ![]() Limuw (photo by EagleDuo) clickable photo "The Bald Eagle" Visit Eaglepedia DISCLAIMER: Information here has been gathered in good faith from the internet and cannot be guaranteed to be totally accurate. |

Cheryl - Absolutely beautiful post, you are "The Queen of Graphics". It's really nice to see some of the eagles that we are not familiar with.

For those who would like some final closure on Echo.... The beautiful spot in Doug Carrick's garden where Echo now lies. Click image by boonibarb to see the album (2 pages) David Hancock gives his opinion on the events of May 11th. "I have been asked to give some final comment on the sad tragedy of Echo. I have reviewed many of the screen shots and archival streams and cannot say I can draw any specific conclusions. When I asked Doug to try and find the chick it was in the hopes the little gaffer might be alive and if not then at least reveal some clearer evidence of what had happened. But the specimen has not revealed anything definitive to me. When I again spoke with Doug and he had the further advantage of holding and examining the chick in hand he was convinced there were no tell-tale marks to suggest how it had been attached to the parent. The closeup of the chick in Doug's hand again tells me nothing terribly definitive. Perhaps the whole tale is about a few of mom's undertail covets feathers getting stuck together and then entangling the wing of the chick. Just prior to the mom flying off the nest with the chick hanging below, it appeared to me that the chick was not entangled by the head or legs but about "center-weight' -- probably the wing position. That the chick arrived back at the nest after a brief flight by the parent is incredible. A few minutes later, before the second and last departure by mom with the chick attached, the attachment seemed a little more focused forward on the body. Perhaps this apparent variation in the entanglement position suggests a new attachment position. I could not be sure and in the end we are really talking about some incredibly rare event. If mom's feathers were 'glued' together from excrement from one of the chicks it was certainly an unlucky event. I see less likelihood of food remains or a bleeding wound on mom being the "glue". With Doug not seeing any further clues I think we will simply have to leave it at that -- a terribly bad break. I cannot contribute any definitive answer as to how the chick was accidentally attached to mom. I, like most of you, was incredibly saddened at the tragic loss. Thanks Doug for giving it an honored burial." David Hancock Edited by Artsy Mom, May 14 2009, 10:19 AM.
