Talk about protection... ![]() Bald Eagle Closes Part of Longview Lake Photo Credit Wildlife Biologist Michael A. Watkins Posted by: Shellie Nelson Email: nelson@nbcactionnews.com Last Update: 5/06 5:17 pm KANSAS CITY, Mo. — To protect an active bald eagle nest, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has temporarily closed the upper end of the Mouse Creek arm of Longview Lake. The area will be closed through the end of July. The Corps has determined protection of the nest is necessary as required by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. Guidance from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service directs that no activity be allowed within close proximity to the nest to prevent the disruption of nesting activities. The area has been buoyed off, and the public is required to stay out of the area. The buoys are white, marked with red letters reading, “Boats-Keep Out.” The affected area is about 3,000 yards north of Scherer road on the eastern leg of the lake. The Mouse Creek boat ramp and the Mouse Creek campground are not affected by the closure. A violation of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act can result in a fine of $100,000, imprisonment for one year, or both for a first offense. Penalties increase substantially for additional offenses. A second violation of this act is a felony. |

Of course I'm going to take a few pictures of the grandkids when they come out. I like this t-shirt, maybe IWS will have a toddler t-shirt before August.

Very special that you sponsored the cams today Jill and that you go to so much trouble every year to make sure people remember the effort and sacrifice made by their law enforcement officers. and what a beautiful photo of Daniel climbing in the tree too Cathy Wow, Ozzie, those penquins are so adorable. I had never heard of that procession before. Isn't nature wonderful?

TGI SATURDAY! Cool, clear and windy here, I'm out for a walk and pick up some milk and bread. Thank you for sponsoring a nest cam Jillers and for such a wonderful memory. Love the Dog! Carole, I too have seen the P Walk at Phillip Island, many years ago. These animals are protected from people with fencing and are told not to take flash pictures but some dumb foreigner always does and it makes the creature hesitate, blinded by the flash Everyone turns to tell them not to!I'm off, everyone have a great weekend.

Ozzie - It's funny you mentioned the tourists that take photos. My BIL is a photographer (as a hobby) and when I asked him for photos of the penguins, he gave me some postcards with their pictures. I think he did do a video but the light was bad at the time so it didn't turn out. They said it was one of the most fun experiences they had. |

Thanks Penny & all. Since Eric was killed in `99, law enforcement has become even more special & important to us. It's a small way we can say thanks to them by educating the public!

Welcome Ozzie. I think there is a patch on the blanket from LAPD. I've attended one of their graduations a few years back. |
