TH NEST HAS SOUND - yes we can listen to the calls of Thunder and Lightning and 81 & 82. HOWEVER - Dr. Sharpe had to put the feed back on UStream so to get the most current link that he is using - see below: Don't miss out - (copying here FYI)Many of the forum members and visitors, tend to follow one particular nest more than the others or like me at work - sometimes only have an opportunity to observe one during the day, etc. If you aren't familiar with or haven't recently saved the links to the other nests we can observe online and follow, you can go to IWS Eagle Forum or IWS.org for the most recent links: IWS Eagle Forum - Cam Link Page From time to time, Dr. Sharpe may upgrade or have to change a link (although not recently) and these are the two sights that would have the most current links. Both nests have a running live feed on UStream or as the case may be, they also have a slo motion feed that refreshes every 5 seconds. Thanks all! |

Eaglepedia Revisited May 17, 2007 The nestlings will have grown all their feathers by the time they are about 7 weeks old and they can stand and stretch, feeling the air rise around their wings! The eaglets will begin to experience "air time" as those air currents lift them briefly off the nest. They will turn into the wind, stretch their wings and tail and flap. Soon after (8-9 weeks of age), they will branch, hopping around the tree near the nest. They will eventually glide to nearby trees and then take flight! And February 20, 2007 At fledging, a juvenile is actually larger than a fully grown adult because of the juvenile plumage which is actually longer and thicker than an adult eagle. The adult is streamlined with fewer and shorter feathers than a juvenile which makes them more graceful in flight, maneuvering with ease! Juveniles tend to be a bit clumsy in flight partly because of their longer feathers. And June 26, 2007 In the last couple of weeks prior to fledging, the flight feathers are large enough for the eaglets to propel themselves across the nest on short flights. The eaglets are about 95% of their mature size and hop, flap and jump around a lot, moving among the support branches of the tree. Males are more active in this respect than females, as is typically the case for raptors. Premature fledging happens to about 1 out of 7 eaglets, falling or jumping before it can fly, then spending several days on the ground. Some will land in water and must swim, an awkward movement for them - like a rowing motion. Males make their first flight at about 78 days of age while females usually fledge later at about 82 days. NEWS FROM THE MNBOUND.COM LOON CAM*****BREAKING NEWS******* The loon just got off the nest and there is a definite HOLE in the end of the egg! AND there is definitely MOVEMENT inside that egg! WE HAVE AT LEAST ONE CHICK THAT IS TRYING TO MAKE ITS WAY INTO THE WORLD!!!! He has gotten his first view of daylight and his first view of this big new world through that tiny "keyhole" that he has pecked in the shell of his egg. His prison and his protector for the last 28 days. It is now 5:50am. I can't see it. I just want to cry. . . A baby loon will soon be here and I'm going to miss all the action. I should have called in sick to work today

Good morning, peeps! Deb, I did hear the sound last night at TH, what a wonderful shock. Woo hoo. I just opened my email and I had five IWS messages, made me laugh, the more the merrier! Laurie, I'll have to check out the loon ASAP. Here's a good thought for the day from "Daily OM". (also in my email )Our intellects, our hearts, and our souls are constantly being tested by the universe. Life will create new challenges for you to face each time you prove yourself capable of overcoming the challenges of the past. What you deem difficult will always differ from that which others deem difficult. The tests you will be given will be as unique as you are. If you focus on doing the best you can and making use of the blessings you have been granted, the outcome of your efforts will be a joyous reflection of your dedication. |

Carole, your "Just Us Chicks" presentation is so cute and colourful. It will be so exciting when we find out the results - maybe even tomorrow for some on the update - of whether the chicks are males or females. I think K-90 from Seal Rocks is a male, judging by Steffani's hinting on last week's update. Really a nice keepsake presentation!
