Eaglepedia Revisited

Wing Displays: Wing movements are part of a bald eagle's body language. During food squabbles, a bald eagle may raise its outstretched wings in a threatening gesture, or it may drape them around its food, protecting a contested morsel with a behavioral pose called "mantling". While perching in a tree, a bald eagle often unfold and extends its wing in an activity known as "sunning", to take full advantage of the sun's warming rays.

Eagles expend a tremendous amount of energy flying and hunting and must spend a lot of time resting. It's estimated that only one out of eighteen attacks are successful. Though not as fast as falcons, bald eagles are fast fliers. When diving, where lift is less important than reaching drag, the eagle pulls in its wings to minimize their surface area.
Bald eagles have been seen hunting in pairs. An eagle protects its food by partially opening its wings, or mantling or tenting. An eagle will hold its prey with one talon, tearing off bites with its beak, eating about one pound of fish in about four minutes!

EVERY Day when I open up the forum and read the Nest Adoption Challenge posting, I am awestruck by the creativity and individuality of each of the talented NAC volunteers and the knowledge (sometimes 'reminders' / sometimes new info) that they share with us daily. I know that we will be treated to this daily 'show' for only the next 2 weeks and I'm sure that I will not be the only one that will be suffering from "empty NAC syndrome"

This is one of my favorite 'sayings' and it fits perfectly:

Give people a fact or an idea and you enlighten their minds; tell them a story and you touch their souls. ~Hasidic proverb

:)^ THANK YOU, NAC for your facts, your ideas, and most importantly, the stories you weave! <3

<::: <::: <::: IMPORTANT PRICE CHANGE announced by Dr. Sharpe

You will be able to order a PAIR - yes a PAIR of the teensy blings for $25!!

Posted Image

<::: <::: after many requests - IWS now has in production - available to the Cruzer Eagleholics - Beanie Blings!

Yes, you can get a bling for your eagle beanie.

Orders can be placed by email to Dr. Sharpe:

Sharpe@IWS.org

Please provide the following information when you order:

Your "real" name
home address (for shipping)
telephone number (just in case)
credit card info (or you can arrange to order thru PayPal)

color of bling (orange for Catalina / blue for Santa Cruz)
number [eagle number example: A49 (blue) - K90 (orange) ]

A PAIR OF TEENSY BLING - $25

NOTE: please allow time for Steffani to cut the bling out and paint the numbers - yes, these are hand made items (and she makes them when her daily duties to the eagles are done so.......) - they are very small and take a lot of time and effort to make them just right for us

BE SURE TO ASK NEST ADOPTION CHALLENGE CREDIT (until 6/15)

if you have any questions - post them here or send me an EM!
now how many beanies do I have .......... rofl

Deb, I have a question: for someone to come in to this Forum, do they have to register first or can they come in as guests first?
I'm thinking that if they are made to register first, before having a chance to look around, that may be one of the reasons the Membership here is not larger.
<:::

Elaine - just saw your note - a visitor should be able to see the majority of threads and items posted on the IWS forum They would not be able to post - they would have to register as a member to post!
