THANK YOU DR. SHARPE AND IWS FOR LETTING US

DO IT THE OLD FASHIONED WAY!

PROGRESS IS BEING MADE. THIS YEAR ALL FIVE NESTS IN CATALINA

HATCHED THEIR CHICKS NATURALLY. PLEASE SUPPORT THIS EFFORT TO

RESTORE THE BALD EAGLE TO THE CHANNEL ISLANDS THROUGH YOUR TAX

DEDUCTIBLE DONATION TO IWS.

Just a gentle reminder that forum protocols do not permit us to discuss the Fundraiser in the CHIL forum. We would be happy to answer any questions here in the IWS forum.

Eaglepedia Revisited

May 25, 2008

Chicks take their first flights between 10-12 weeks of age. The first flights are usually short, to a nearby tree or cliff face. Sometimes they land on the ground where they may stay for a day or until they gain enough strenth to fly up into a tree. Once eaglets leave the nest, they usually don't return to use the nest as "home". The parents may bring food to the nest for a period of time, using it as a feeding station. The young leave the nest when the timing is right.

(NOTE: in 2007, Limuw was fed at the nest often after he fledged - most of the chicks we are watching will be turning 8 weeks old next week - time is flying :( )

OK, here's the update!! I did not receive any inquiries or e-mails on the committee since this thread opened, so the Naming Committee is myself (JeanneC) and Deb (Harpo516). Please feel free to contact either of us by e-mail or message if you have any questions or comments!

From the suggestions and input about previous polls, it looks like having two separate polls (one after the other) will be the best way to go. The chicks will be blinged and banded by the time voting starts, but we probably won't know their genders or who was the first-born.

Here's the schedule we're looking at:

Nominations close: Thursday, June 11 at midnight (this thread will remain open, however)
First poll: Saturday, June 13 - Friday, June 19
Second poll: Saturday, June 20 - Friday, June 26

As far as what name will go to what chick - let's wait' til we get closer to voting time - perhaps IWS crew will know the chicks' genders by then - or at least be able to give us a good guess!!!

<::: <::: <::: IMPORTANT PRICE CHANGE announced by Dr. Sharpe

You will be able to order a PAIR - yes a PAIR of the teensy blings for $25!!

<::: <::: after many requests - IWS now has in production - available to the Cruzer Eagleholics - Beanie Blings!

Yes, you can get a bling for your eagle beanie.

Orders can be placed by email to Dr. Sharpe:

Sharpe@IWS.org

Please provide the following information when you order:

Your "real" name
home address (for shipping)
telephone number (just in case)
credit card info (or you can arrange to order thru PayPal)

color of bling (orange for Catalina / blue for Santa Cruz)
number [eagle number example: A49 (blue) - K90 (orange) ]

A PAIR OF TEENSY BLING - $25

NOTE: please allow time for Steffani to cut the bling out and paint the numbers - yes, these are hand made items (and she makes them when her daily duties to the eagles are done so.......) - they are very small and take a lot of time and effort to make them just right for us

BE SURE TO ASK NEST ADOPTION CHALLENGE CREDIT (until 6/15)

if you have any questions - post them here or send me an EM!
now how many beanies do I have .......... rofl

Hey Deb, I have a question. I sponsored the PH cam a couple of weeks ago. Can I still contact Dr. Sharpe and ask him to put that donation towards the nest adoption??? I didn't really want anything for my donation, but now that I've seen that eagle plate I'd like my name to be put in the drawing for it.

Laurie, I know the answer to your question. Yes, you can contact Dr. Sharpe and let him know that. This message is on the cam page.

Thank you to the 57 donors who have contributed so far (many multiple times). You have adopted 8 nests for the 2010 Nesting Season. If you have contributed to IWS in the past month and did not specify that you would like your donation to go towards the Nest Adoption Challenge, please email Dr. Sharpe at sharpe@iws.org to let him know that you would like it counted.

Go for it! I hope you win that pretty plate!
