G'day Peeps, I just had to post up this article!! Germany's Aschersleben Zoo is home to more than 100 animal species, but arguably the most exotic of its residents is this 2-month-old white tiger cub. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/unleashed/2009/06/white-tiger-cub-in-germanys-aschersleben-zoo.html (more photos at the link) |

After finishing painting Rachel's room, I decided to go for a long walk, here are a couple of 'views' along the way.. Careening Bay (Kurraba Point on the left, Kirribilli on the right). The bay has a footy park behind me, @10 min walk from my house. ![]() Mosman Bay looking south towards Sydney City. Notice the green & yellow Ferry boat in the bay? What a great way to travel teh harbour on public transport!

Graduation celebrations of all types, take place in late May/early June of each and every year! It's not really any different for the Bald Eagles of the Channel Islands! Come this time of year, the eaglets have attained their full size (in an extremely short time), grown all their feathers, can feed themselves (and mantle Mom/Dad), and have now learned a little about wind-lift-flapping! It's time to "graduate"! Below is a look at the graduations and eaglets, celebrated by the Cruzers and eagle followers, over the past several years! ![]() .............................. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() .............................. ![]() ![]() ![]() Many are experiencing the challenges of life - learning even more skills - soaring with the winds! Some are beginning to return to their homes - to find a mate and continue the circle of life! A few have been lost but certainly not forgotten and they brought much to us in their time here! Celebrate these eaglets - juveniles - eagles! Celebrate the future! But remember, they still need our help ............ it's a long road that they must travel and we can all do it together!

Eaglepedia Revisited June 29, 2007 A very important happening in an eaglet's life is the day it fledges. The nest can be extremely high in a tree, 100 feet above the ground. A mistake can be fatal. The eaglet prepares for this event with lots of walking, then running & stomping in the nest. Sounds funny but they need powerful feet and talons to spring into flight and to land and perch on a branch as well as the ability to grasp and hang onto prey, carrying it from the water. The eaglet will also begin to flap its wings, becoming more vigorous in this activity, eventually able to lift himself off of the ground/nest during the downstroke! http://www.eagleinstitute.org/student/6week.PDF Practice makes perfect (Cumbrian) (Harpo) (Naturegal) Visit Eaglepedia DISCLAIMER: Information here has been gathered in good faith from the internet and cannot be guaranteed to be totally accurate. |

Ozzie, the paws on the white tiger cub are enormous! Lucky person who got to give him a big hug. Your walking trails have some gorgeous scenery. Glad that you are getting out and about and learning all the special areas of your new neighbourhood. Sounds like you are making good progress with the painting. Hikers, saw your newest aviary photo. It's coming along nicely. Enjoy your day, everybody. It's cool and cloudy here, yuk. I've been reading a good book, the sequel to "Pillars of the Earth". It's called "World Without End" by Ken Follett. DS Matthew is coming for his birthday supper, a bit late since his birthday was on May 31st, but he's a busy guy.

Protect the Environment Wear a Badge Snagged from IWS Update Spring 2009 Nest Adoption Challenge, Become a member. http://s11.zetaboards.com/IWS_Eagle_Forum/topic/7104505/6/ ![]() We thank those who diligently watch our eagle live cameras and post nest observations all throughout the day. The main purpose of our cameras is to help us monitor the nests without having to travel to the actual sites, which are very remote. This allows us to monitor the population and the other nests that are even more remote and have to be physically checked by us. If you have not watched our cameras yet, now it’s the time to start watching! Eggs will be laid soon in, hopefully, all of the nests and chicks will start hatching before you know it. Just go to www.iws.org and click on Eagle Nest Cams under the Interactive menu. While you are there, and if you aren’t one already, consider becoming a member to help support our conservation efforts on the Channel Islands and all throughout the world. For every membership level purchase or renewal, you will receive a FREE IWS bald eagle pin and the IWS newsletter. Stay tuned for more eagle news every Wednesday and have a wonderful week.
