Eagle #09-0856![]() This young Bald Eagle was rescued from its nest toppled by a storm in Prince William County. The bird, the smallest and weakest of three nestlings, was rescued by VDGIF eagle biologist Jeff Cooper and admitted to the Center on May 27. Upon admission, the eaglet was thin and dehyrdated, had a fractured left radius, and had trachial worms. The bird was treated with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, fluids and pain medication. The bird ate on its own for the first time on May 30 and has continued to eat well. On May 31, Center veterinarians operated on the eagle. This was the final surgery performed at the Center by veterinary intern Dr. Natalie Hall. Assisting her was Dr. Ariane Santamaria-Bouvier, who was just starting her one-year intership at the Center. The radial fracture of the left wing was successfully pinned. The eagle’s progress will be re-evaluated in mid-June. On June 10 the eagle was moved to an outdoor pen. |

Linda - Yippee, another pendant girl, we should all get together and sport our eagle pendants. You are going to love it, enjoy, enjoy!Penny - I want to thank you so much for all your updates on Buddy, other rehab eagles and of course Squish. I'm not even doing Squish photos because the ones you are posting are far better. All I can get are the ones off the video. I always look forward to your posts so thanks again.

G'day Peeps, Nice opening this morning Cheryl, nearly to $15 K..... [/big] You sure that wont scare the birds?? My Friday, very cold (for Sydney) 7C/46F.... but clear and to stay clear for a couple of days... time to get painting again! My weekend plans. I just wrote an email to my State Member of Parliament asking her to vote against this: A NEW bill that would open the state's national parks and reserves to recreational hunters who could be licensed to shoot native animals and birds has been condemned by environmental groups. The NSW Shooters Party has introduced the private members bill to Parliament. It allows for private game reserves to be set up for professional safari hunters, overturning NSW laws that prevent the enclosing of animals on land solely for hunting purposes. Among the birds and animals that could be hunted are the Australian wood duck, the chestnut teal and grey teal ducks, galahs, corellas and eastern grey, western grey and red kangaroos. ![]() http://www.smh.com.au/environment/conservation/greens-oppose-recreational-hunting-in-national-parks-20090611-c508.html |

Ozzie, loved the dolphin story. Good for you for writing to your Parliamentarian about the hunting vote. Thank you for your comment about this morning's post, too. Deb, thanks for the comment above, too. I tried some new things with those. The background in the CHIL forum makes the white disappear over there - looks different here. I liked both ways. Using the frame was a new learning curve, plus the method for the butterfly. Sure is quiet today on both forums. Cathy, excellent plan for your grandsons to be taking swimming lessons. |

I have no idea what I'm teaching tomorrow .... sincerely hope it's not a class year-end trip somewhere. I think it would be courteous of them to call me in person instead of just with the substitute call machine if there's a trip, since I need to be prepared more. |
