THANK YOU Carole and Cathy!!! I always get nervous having to open Chat. Invariably, I leave something out. If I did so today, thank you whomever fixed it. I thought today was going to start out cloudy, but it has cleared up quickly and it looks like it is going to be gorgeous today. I'm thinking that it would be nice to go out and spruce up my herb garden. I started to do that last week, but because I have the attention span of a gnat, I got side tracked by something else and never finished what I had been doing. ~Sigh~ Cathy, love, love, love your green frog.

Eaglepedia Revisited January 12, 2007 The eaglets in the nest will spend many weeks flapping before they take their first flight. If they fall from the nest, they usually cannot get back into the nest, however, the parent will usually continue to feed the chick on the ground. It is believed that if the eaglet remains on the nest for 11 or 12 weeks, the parents will fly around the nest carrying food, seeming to entice the youngster to fledge! The fledgling may associate with the parents for a period of 6 weeks with the parents continuing to feed them during this time. The young eagle will watch the parents catch the fish but do not learn how to catch live fish for themselves for along time. Their first "catches" will be carcasses on the shoreline, next trying their new skills out by picking up dead fish floating on the surface of the water. The parents have cared well for the fledglings who now weigh as much if not more, than their parents! http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/eagle/NestingPhenology.html ![]() Visit Eaglepedia DISCLAIMER: Information here has been gathered in good faith from the internet and cannot be guaranteed to be totally accurate. |

![]() Good morning, peeps! Great way to start the day with your wonderful presentation, Michele! Hope you are able to get something done in your herb garden. I think the weatherman fooled us. It was supposed to be nice today but it's cloudy and cool instead. I should be out there, too, doing some fertilizing. Saw a squirrel chugging away on the sugar water in my hummingbird feeder this morning. He's figured out a way to climb the shepherd's hook, get into the hanging basket on the right side, and reach over and tilt the glass feeder while stretched out between the basket and the feeder. Talk about flexible! Great hockey game last night, DH was literally on the edge of his seat all night, plus DS had all his buddies in the basement cheering away. They all wanted the Penguins to win. My DB will be disappointed since he's a Red Wings fan. It was an excellent series. |

Whooper Update: Three whooping crane pairs have re-nested. The story below with the link tells about the exciting news of a wild hatch..... with some help! The other two nests are expecting a hatch in the next week or so, if all goes well. "We have two additional re-nesting attempts located on the Necedah Refuge, which, pending fertility should hatch within the next week. These two pairs include 211/217* the 'First Family,' which successfully hatched twins in 2006, and 403/309*. " #403 and 309 already have two chicks in the 2009 ultralight cohort, since their first nest was abandonded earlier this spring. The eggs were quickly collected to save them from predators, and they became chicks #906 and 908. The mother whooper, #309, is one of my favourites. She wandered all over the place by herself for years, was retrieved several times, and finally has found a male crane to settle down with. Whooping Crane Chick Hatches in the Wild in Wisconsin

Local Red-Tail Hawks Build Nest on ChurchI think the newspaper held this story back until the chicks fledged. Looks like they had their own paparazzi, too. The red-tails seem to be making a comeback in our area. We had one in our yard in the fall, and have seen them soaring and calling overhead on neighbourhood walks for the first time. This location would be about a 20-minute drive away. It's a good newspaper article about them.

CDN/Cheryl ... we were rooting for the Penquins also and happy at the outcome ... the last few minutes were sooo exciting. I was still at work but Manu called me with updates and DVRd it so I could watch the end when I got home. After the Kings were eliminated ('there is always next year') I lost interest in the playoffs in general until the Finals... reading the results on the Sports Page was sufficient but I'm always a bit sad to see the season end tho we are big baseball fans and our limited time won't be as 'fragmented'.
