Eagle FansI think I have relaxed after all that Bandit drama yesterday Boy that sure was a huge rotten tree limb that caused his early fledging Thanks for posting that image Carole Meanwhile at Hornby, Hope is exploring her territory. Here is a cute description of Hope's adventures yesterday from Doug Carrick. Such a difference from Bandit's. ![]() A rare screencap by nightowl of Ma Hornby sitting with Hope 7:30 am - Hope landed in the Foster's Fir (just behind our house). Her mother was down on The Great Barrier Reef ( a long reef at low tide, 500 feet to the left of the Big Rock). A similar reef in Australia was named after this one. 7:15 am - Hope moved to the gnarly snag ( 3/4 the way from the nest to the Peters' Tree). 7:30 - Yay! Hope flew down to The Great Barrier Reef - the first time she has landed on a beach as far as I know. Being low tide, all rocks are covered with slippery seaweeds and Hope was slip-sliding along. Twice she slipped back onto her rear end, in an undignified way. She slipped into a tiny tidal pool and got her feet wet- probably for the first time. A sea gull flew close to her and she took on an attack poise - head down and hackles up. She seemed fascinated with this new world of the beach, looking this way and that way, pecking at the seaweed or crawly things on it. 8:00 am - Hope flew to the nearby beach and became intrigued with the curious crows gathering around her. She took a few rapid steps towards one of the crows and it flew back. She did the same with another and another, and it became a game "chasing the crows". The crows seemed to enjoy this game also. 8:30 am - back up to the trees where I could hear her "screeping", if that is the correct word. 12:45 pm - Hope flew from the nest to the gnarly-topped tree then on to the Peters' Tree where Ma Hornby was perched. Hope flew right at her, knocking her from the perch and landed there herself. Ma Hornby flew to the Leaning Tree on Sandstone Point (the southern boundary of their territory). Pa Hornby joined her soon after. 11:45 pm - Ma and Pa are still in the Leaning Tree. Hope is still in the Peter's Tree, screeching all the time, "I'm hungry!" I'm sure watchers (or listeners) can hear her clearly. |

Topa, have a great time with the balloons. It should be fun! I am not planning anything right now. We only go fishing/camping every other week, so this is our week off.
