I was under the impression that everyone had been drawn once, as I believe I read (but may be in error about this) that because everyone had been drawn once, the contributor's names were put back in the hat to potentially win a second item, as everything had not been claimed on the first round. |

Topa, what a beautiful family you have! I'm so happy that you had such a nice visit with them. I'm sure it with stick in the kid's minds forever. I so remember the times I spent with my grandparents when I was a kid. We all lived very close together in a small town, so most of it was just "everyday stuff" that we did together. But I will never forget those days. |

The kids all look like they had a great time! One of my favorite memories of my grandpa was that my older cousin and I were hanging out with him at home one day when my grandma was at work. I couldn't have been more than 3 or 4, but it was summer and he was working in the garden and the yard, and my cousin and I were just hanging out talking to him and doing kid stuff. He made us lunch and I still remember what we had - Spam sandwiches and grapefruit sodas. It seemed like such a treat! Isn't it funny the things we remember? |

Linda - You are bringing back wonderful memories of my childhood. We lived downstairs from my grandparents and I remember always wanting to go upstairs to visit grannie. She used to make a clothesline in the kitchen and wash all my doll's clothes and I would hang them on the line with clothespins. Then she would make me fish and chips, she was very British, from London. These are the things we will always treasure.

Those are both sweet stories. I wonder what our grandchildren will remember about this trip? I learned to cook from my grandmother. She used to pull up a chair to the spaghetti sauce pot and show me what to do to make her recipe. She was my best friend. Edited by Topa Topa Hikers, Aug 25 2009, 06:25 PM.

Topa - They will remember the fun they had with you and your family and all the hugs and kisses they received. They are going to miss you a lot.

My Mom's mother lived with us and she did all the cooking as my Mom worked in my Dad's store. She was the best cook and baker and I too would pull up a chair and she would teach me how to cook. She never had a recipe, she just cooked with love and everything was delicious. |

You guys are very blessed! My Mom's parents died when she was a little girl. My Dad's parents lived in Texas so we hardly saw them. I saw my grandmother only once or twice as an adult. So I have few memories of my grandparents. |

I love reading about the Grandparent Memories! My parent's were divorced (and subsequently remarried), so I had a range of Grandparents! My father's parents, my favorite, were Missionaries in China and India, they had wonderful stories to tell. Grandpa would sit me on his knee and sing 'Pony Boy' whilst rocking his knee, I just loved that. Grandma had the most beautiful garden in the world. She told me once 'To have a beautiful Garden is to Walk with God'. My mother's mother (father died before I was born) unfortunately was an alcoholic, but she taught me some crafts when I stayed with her, in particular, straw flowers. The other significant Grandparent was my mother's 2nd husband, they were Ukrainian and full of cultural differences I found fascinating. She always bought me fancy frilly undies for Christmas!
