Yesterday I was sitting out on the deck when a hummingbird came buzzing along. I planted some pink flowers on long stems, don't know what they are, but they have been a hummingbird magnet this summer. I am buying a lot more next year. Anyway the hummer came to get some nectar but it hovered over my head near my face trying to figure out what I was I guess. |

Naturegal...Thanks so much for posting pictures of our new panda, elephants, etc. The S.D. Zoo is an amazing place. In our paper this morning on the front page and above the fold is the story and picture of the two newest additions to the new $45 milion Elephant Odyssey exhibit. A week ago, two former circus elephants, Jewel and her longtime buddy, Tina, came to EO. Both are sick Asian Elephants, are middle age, and were taken from a circus operator in Leggett, Texas. Jewel has added 300 pounds in her first week and her buddy has gained 185 pounds. Our EO has a new "special needs" barn where the elephants can live comfortably while veternarians nurse them back to health. Chiquita |

Cheryl - Those hummingbirds can be really entertaining can't they. Deb - Get in the boat - let's go. . . Bring your hiking shoes, we'll go for a hike, we're also having a BBQ lots of friends coming in to hang out with us and we can even watch for eagles. Deb, can you try half a dose of your meds?? Penny, we've only had a real "summer" for a few weeks too. I'm going to take advantage of it as much as I can. I've even taken tomorrow off from work, so I can grocery shop and cl**n the house etc. So that we can be on our way to camp as soon as DH gets off from his shift saturday morning. And I will definitely give him an extra special hug from you.

Update on Golden Eagle 'Crash' On August 4th 2009 a male golden eagle flew into the windshield of a semi-truck traveling down I-80 at 70 MPH. The force of the collision pushed the windshield into the driver’s lap and the eagle now nicknamed “Crash” ended up on the floor of the cab dazed but still alive. Crash should have died on impact, but now after his third visit to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center’s Avian vet, Dr. Douglas Folland of Parrish Creek Veterinary Clinic, on Monday August 25th, his condition continues to improve. An examination x-ray of his broken wing shows good signs of healing and Dr. Folland hopes to remove the four wing pins in approximately two weeks. Crash’s eyes are slowly clearing up and both react to light stimulus although he seems to favor his right eye still (left eye received impact trauma from the collision). WRC Rehabilitation experts were hand feeding Crash daily until the 24th when he was presented food on his perch at an attempt to get him to self feed. He eagerly consumed all without effort or help from handlers. Crash is getting noticeably feistier and harder to handle which is a good sign of his continuing recovery and gives us great hope and expectation for his eventual release back into his home in the Summit County area. Chiquita, so happy to read the good news story about the elephants. I'm glad that they are eating and thriving now and can live out their days being cared for properly. Penny, I will watch the Bandit video later for sure, trying to watch the whoopers right now. Thanks for posting it. |
