Whooper Update: The chicks in cohorts two and three have been getting along during their outings after training when both groups walk about on the runway. They divided the pen lengthwise this time so that both groups would have access to their favourite part, the water, at the same time, instead of being there on alternate days. In other years one group was always frustrated and likely cranky because they could not get to the water.

Today is Health Check day for the chicks so there was no flight training.

Whooping cranes do not gather in large groups in the wild. Sometimes there are bachelor groups of five or six birds, but that is all. This socializing that the team is doing with the chicks is not in their DNA, and it is very important that they are supervised and introduced gradually.

Right now they are training 22 chicks, which, fingers and toes and everything crossed, will be the largest group ever to take flight together if all goes well.

Morning Cruzers :}^

Welcome back Carole, I finally get to see the Zoo Buddies again :D I think everyone was sick and tired of my over-the-top, non-stop images of Squiggles since you've been away :P

This morning a Blue Jay flew into my yard and checked out the feeders...no peanuts, so he left :( and I didn't have a chance to take a :clk:

DH wants to get either a Nikon P90, the Olympus SP-570 UZ or the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 point and shoot camera because they each have an ultra long lens for zooming in super close and you don't need a tripod...which he has 3 of for his D70 and never takes with him anywhere....too heavy!!! One of those would have come in very handy this morning :chk:

Deb, I've sent you two emails regarding adding my name to that list and I still don't see it. I won item #126. I don't know if B-)) has sent it yet, but my previous experience is that somehow they do not arrive :( Canada Customs can hold things up forever too

Penny - We will never get tired of you posting your wonderful captures of Squiggles and Mom, please keep them coming. I only check in a few times a day as I usually am in nest obs. Your zoomer ones are awesome. :><:

I never had a problem with Canada Customs, I got my plate and love it.

Good to know Carole :)^

I think the Customs officers in Winnipeg all have a Napolean complex....they have always caused everyone a lot of trouble here....same at the airport, not like in Toronto where we breeze through every time :D

Yes, Natalie is bad, bad! We don't want her going to the final two! I can only hope if Kevin gets to choose that he picks Jordon.

Didn't you think it strange she wasn't more excited to get engaged? I kind of feel her BF doesn't really know the real Natalie! I feel sorry for him!
