hooray ozzie! and who is painting it? hope not you! Jill-I agree - Jeff should have kept mr. annoying - he would never have gotten the votes and I know it was frustrating, but ignoring him would have been no fun and he would have stopped! Oh well - I really wanted Jeff to win - I'm thinking he'll get the favorite player prize! hope hope At this point - I think Kevin will get it - he's played very well and sometimes against the odds - would love Jordan to get it but she really rode along on Jeff so....... NOT NATALIE - please no.... |

Holy elephant - I didn't know that so of course that made me go take a little look: The African elephant has ears that average at least three time the size of the Asian elephant Ears are used as signaling organs in the African elephant Ears are used to regulate body temperature Ears are used as a protective feature in the African elephant to ward off potential threats. Each elephant's ear is unique and is used as a a type of fingerprint for identification thanks Jill - how interesting! |

Ozzie - Good news about the ceiling being installed today, phew, no more mess for you. Are you planning other renovations to this bathroom, if so post photos, I need ideas as I would like to redo 2 bathrooms here. DH says it isn't necessary but what do men know.

Blackwater Refuge........ Braveheart is still at the nest, but since she hatched late, we probably shouldn't be surprised. In 2006 -- the last year we had chicks -- our final osprey was seen on September 8, then the bald eagles arrived on the platform, meaning our osprey family had left town.

the osprey chicks down by the Atlantic Ocean in the bay are still visiting their nests peeping for food! here's the one at the landfill site - and the parent flew by to check while we were there - a couple hours later though - juvie had gone on - but they are still hanging out. a week ago we saw the 2 juvies on the Meadowbrook nests! ![]() and boy was it peeping when the parent came by but it didn't get him any fishie! we did see the parent fishing though but no catch while we were there

Xi Lan Update ![]() Images - Zoo Atlanta Wednesday, September 9 Usually everyone has a favorite spot where they like to relax. For some it’s a comfy chair or sofa in the living room, while for others it is a spot on the beach or maybe a shady spot in the grass under a large tree. Pandas aren't any different when it comes to this. Lun Lun and Mei Lan like to curl up high in the climbing structures, while Yang Yang is pretty much comfortable anywhere. Xi Lan has chosen his spots as well. In the dayrooms, like his mom and sister, he likes to snooze high in the climbing structures, but on exhibit he has taken to a new spot. In his many explorations of the outside habitat, Xi Lan has recently discovered the cave in the back of the exhibit. It is darker in there and also much cooler on these warm summer mornings. It’s a perfect spot for a young panda to catch some z’s. This is not uncommon, as all of our pandas here at Zoo Atlanta have chosen the cave as their preferred spot at one time or another. This means, much to the chagrin of some panda viewers, that Xi Lan is sometimes partially out of sight during the day. But never fear, he doesn't spend too long in the cave. With an increase in age comes an increase in play time, with or without mom. This can last for quite some time, and usually does. After all that exertion, can you blame him for just wanting to curl up and relax in his new favorite spot? Kenn Harwood Lead Keeper of Carnivores |
