Carole you are 'da bomb' How did you get all that done when you had to go to Montreal too????I am in the polar opposite of situations...no family here...so will contribute to other gatherings of friends at Rosh Hashana and break the fast on Yom Kippur the same way. |

Penny - I did most of it before I left for Montreal and the rest since I returned, LOL. I wish we lived closer, you and your DH could celebrate with us. I'm not doing a thing for Yom Kippur as it will only be 2 days after Alan's surgery and I want him to rest and take it easy. All I will be giving him is chicken soup and light meals and told him that he can't fast after having an anaesthetic, he has to flush it out of his system with food. That remains to be seen, he is stubborn but I will be a nag, LOL.

Carole, bravo on getting all that cooking done and frozen away for safekeeping. Lucky grandchildren to have a Grandma happy to make their special dishes filled with love. What are some of the things you made? By the way, forgot to tell you that I made your lemon squares recipe on the weekend. They were delicious - tangy and sweet. We ate too many of them but oh, well, enjoyed every bite. ![]() Flooring installer guy is still here, working away all by himself. I am happy with the way the floor looks and the colour - was worried that it might not look right or something even though we spent a lot of time trying to make sure it matched everything else. We just had the one 16 x 16 tile to use for matching. Wonder what Topa and her friend are doing right about now.

Carole you will have to remind your DH that there is no requirement for people with medical issues to participate in the fast. They are exempt and at the very least Alan should be 'flushing' his system with liquids after his surgery.

Cheryl - Can't wait to see the pics of your new tile floor. You asked what I made for our holiday. Well a lot of the dishes are traditional Jewish ones but I will try to explain. Already made............ Kasha (Buckwheat) and bowtie noodles with fried onions. Sweet noodle pudding with raisins and crushed pineapple. Potatoe pancakes. Farfel (little noodlelike thingies) with fried onions and mushrooms. Roast beef brisket. Honey Chiffon Cake, a traditional cake that brings sweetness to the New Year. Lemon Squares. Now I have to make.......(has to be made fresh, last minute) Eggplant salad Chopped Liver (like a pate) Chicken soup with matzo balls Turkey and gravy Gefilte Fish (fish balls that are served with a strong red horseradish) I think that's about it but I always find something else to make. Of course a fresh veggie, probably asparagus. The first night all I am making is a beef tenderloin roast with potato knishes (mashed potatoes in a pastry which I bought when in Montreal) a veggie and a split pea soup with mini dumplings, almost forgot that one I'm getting hungry thinking about the above but all we are having tonight is an Italian antipasto plate. |

Cheryl - No need to be upset, the polar bears are back. It's the exhibit that is closed, not the cam. They did drain the pool but it is now filled and we have visitors..........

Hello everybody! Just a quick check-in, I'm really busy at work today. Haven't been able to read all of today yet, but I saw that Hikers in on Santa Cruz today? I AM SO JEALOUS!!! Hope you have a blast Hikers!!!!! And what's this about surgery for Alan??? Hope he's okay!!! I see I have to catch up on a lot here. BTW, my boss got a note from Dr. Sharpe, the Pimu Tour was not available any longer, so he chose one of the beautiful plates (if still available) otherwise he'll get an Adoption Certificate. Actually I should say that I will get a beautiful plate or adoption certificate! Hope everyone is having a good day!!! I'll try to catch up to you all later!! |

Hi Bea - Alan is going in for gallbladder surgery on Sept. 25th. It will be done laparoscopically so he will be home the same day but must take it easy for a few weeks. Enjoy your new plate or adoption certificate from IWS.

Carole I think we'll time our next visit to Toronto just in time for Rosh Hashanah ![]() My DH had the same surgery only his was done the old fashioned way in the 60's ![]() He did not take it easy and went deep sea fishing with my father and uncle in BC less than 10 days later and ended up splitting all his stitches when he tried to haul in a dogfish shark thinking it was a salmon .....resulting in a lovely scar which he wears proudly today  only at the time it wasn't very funny

Penny - Open invitation any time you are in Toronto. I also had the gallbladder surgery in 1964 and was in the hospital for 2 weeks. My DD was just 6 months old and I wasn't allowed to lift her for another few weeks so stayed at my Mom's. I can't imagine going fishing but men are men and don't always follow the doctors orders. The first question Alan asked the surgeon is when can I play golf and he said 3 weeks which is terrific but I won't let him play until we get to Florida in November.

Isn't it amazing how surgeries have changed over the years. Keeping Alan in my prayers. Ahhhhh Santa Cruz Island and PH nest. Beautiful!!! Well this girl is tired and going to go get some beauty sleep. Coleman is running around the house like his tail is on fire all of a sudden. Ooooppsss he just slid and skidding around the kitchen floor. Poor kitty. Good night folks. Hope you all have a restful one. |
