Eaglepedia Revisited - August 12, 2007

Scientists have studied the unpredictable wanderings of young eagles. They can disperse in any direction, apparently learning their own migration patterns. The juveniles do seem to remember where they have been and many find the places where they will spend most of their winters and where they will establish their territory when the time comes.

July 9, 2007

With the necessity of defending territories not needed in the winter, eagles of all ages will congregate along open bodies of water (below dams, running rivers, discharges from power plants) to feed on fish and waterfowl they can catch. For the young eagles, this can be a difficult time, scavenging for leftovers from the more experienced eagles and learning how to steal. Injuries are rare from fights that do break out.

Bonjour Little Leopards!
Just this week, the French zoo Jardin des Plantes debuted two playful female Clouded Leopard cubs named Pati and Jaya. Born back in May, the zoo held off on announcing the births until they were certain mother and cubs were all in good health. Population estimates for the Clouded Leopard are challenging because the shy cats are so good at avoiding detection, but it is known that they are threatened by habitat loss and poaching in their native home of Southeast Asia.

love the PH nest in the fog - don't love the MT :(

back from last minute things to do - gave blood (didn't plan on that) - now packing up and closing everything for loading tonight!

hopefully I can at least keep up with your posts while I'm away at camp but never sure about the signal there so we shall see!

it's hot hot hot again here today - humidity not awful - just hot!

right beside the blood "center" at the mall they have a pet adoption center - had to close my eyes and walk right by or I'd have brought 'em all home :(

Last night I picked up DDs wedding dress, and Jennifer the seamstress had an adorable
little dashhound puppy she needed a home for. I too had to close my eyes.
If grandkids lived closer I would have taken the pup! It was so cute. :P :D

The pup or the wedding dress.... what a choice! rofl

G'day Peeps! My Saturday evening, the day turned out sunny and not so cold after all. I walked my feet off in Newtown with friend Joanne. Firstly we hit a HUGE used book store. I bought Anita Shreve 'Sea Glass' and an Italian phrasebook. Dumbledore was at the cash register. Joanne then took me to a nearby historic St Stephen's church and graveyard. Very cool... here are my photos (from an iPhone no less!) The guy playing the clarinet/oboe (or whatever it is) was so cool, the music floating down and touching us as we walked through.

Hi, just popping in. Promise to check out the links .... we went to visit my MIL in the nursing home yesterday ..... a very old and depressing place, she was fine but FIL is beyond reasoning with over a number of things that I won't get into on here. Came home and slept for three hours, my poor DH can't even get through to him.

Enjoy your holiday, Deb.

My sister is visiting my mother. Sometime in the past few days my mother tripped. In trying to protect her knees (both knee replacement surgeries) and her stomach (recent gallbladder surgery) she took the force of the fall on her arms and face. My sister got there to see my mother with a gigantic bruise all over one side of her face from her eye to her chin. She hadn't told anyone. It's a wonder she didn't knock herself out or break a bone.

Good puppy/shelter stories, well done on resisting those charms.

Bye for now.

We kind of went to :Zz: way too late last night :P It was actually around 3:00 Am this morning.

The cello concert started at midnight and ended around 1:30Am and it was just a beautiful thing. That cello can even make flamenco guitar music :><: :><: :><:

We were all just in awe at all the different sounds which can be produced with just 4 strings and with a looping machine it sounded like a full blown orchestra in the background. Before each piece Nikolaus laid down some background sounds and then began to play after a bit of explanation about each selection. Umbra is 137 years old and she is looking a little worse for wear up close because she spends too much time outdoors in the sun and heat....plus her owner sweats on her :P but the sound from her is so incredibly melodious.

They will be in Atlanta for a month to score a production of The Big Lobowski (in Shakespearean style) titled "Two Gentleman of Lobowski". Nikolaus is a bit concerned for Umbra because of the humidity there which is even worse for her.
When he gets back to Germany she is going to get a tender loving 'overhaul' :)^
