Nevada Humane Society Celebrates the Joy of Pet Adoption with Dance Video

The Nevada Humane Society is a non-profit, charitable, no-kill shelter in Reno. NHS works to find homes and provide care for homeless animals.

"We produced this video to illustrate that pet adoption is truly a time of joy and celebration,"explains Diane Blankenburg, Community Programs Director for Nevada Humane Society. "Each time a pet is adopted, we ring a bell, cheer and clap to celebrate that another homeless pet is going to a loving home. There is a standing ovation each time one of these wonderful pets finds homes."

Michigan Oil Spill Disaster largest in Midwest History

As the Gulf Coast deals with the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history, the Midwest is now facing an oil spill of its own :8O:

A state of emergency has been declared in southwest Michigan's Kalamazoo County as more than 800,000 gallons of oil released into a creek began making its way downstream in the Kalamazoo River.

Whooper Update: Chicks 4-10 and 11-10 have completed their road trip from Maryland to Necedah. They arrived early this morning. This is #4-10 shortly after he was released from the crate. Both chicks were held back at Patuxent because of serious health issues. But they got better and have been able to rejoin their classmates! :><:

Wanted to share a couple of photos from our Alaska trip. It was basically for wildlife viewing...we put it together. These are from Kodiak Island. We flew there, spent three days and on one of them flew via float plane to a lake, hiked a mile in waders, pouring rain, 45 degree temp, and sat in the rain for two hours watching Kodiak bears. They are the largest land predator. Here is a Mom and her three little cubs.

Penny, that eaglet was so feisty. Even when it was wrapped up in a blanket with a hood on and its talons taped it was still trying to snap at the man and wriggle around. Good videos!

Penny, thanks for sharing that photo. We found that the bears protect their territory very aggressively, chasing off any other bear who comes their way. These are from Brooks Falls. We stayed at Brooks Lodge for three days. The bottom one was taken on a Saturday evening...there were a total of 23 bears fishing. The top one is of a little cub trying to scramble up the falls because his mom caught a fish. His two siblings are waiting below.

The first photo is of an eagle I got to hang out with on Kodiak Island. And, the other two were taken in Barrow, "The Top of the World." I flew up for a day while Randy was fishing. I'd always wanted to go there...and now don't need to go back.
