we decided to take the "back roads" home due to all the traffic so we stopped at Conowingo for a quick look and on up into Lancaster for lunch. saw a few eagles hanging out (and turkey buzzards) and the other "flyer" was at the Jambo in VA where they were dumping water all day on the area behind the stage so that the fireworks at the show would not be a problem! GO ARMY!![]() ![]() I want to be this guy - look just over to the right - sitting on the rocks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() do you see him? ![]() there he is

Yes, It's a great day ahead! Morning sky is clear! I August! ![]() Santa Cruz Update is awesome! Great photos of Anacapa, makes me want to go back to Santa Cruz my favorite Island and camp at Prisoners. DH and I have been talking about buying the smaller ocean kayaks to throw in the car for Lake Casitas and Bates beach. I should look on Craigs list or garage sales. We've had so much fog this summer but it looks like it's clearing off. Hot weather ahead. I'm think I'm starting to feel normal again , and ready to get back to the routine. Good morning peeps, wishing you all a happy day! Deb - Nice pics, have to get to Conowingo one day, there always seems to be eagles there. Hope you get caught up on all your stuff. It's always nice to take a holiday but there's always lots of stuff waiting for you when you get home. Penny - The photo from yesterday of my GS was taken at Thursday's. You have to go there for Sunday brunch, it's the best deal in town and the food is fabulous but make a reservation. Here's the website........ http://www.thursdaysbar.com/en/thursdaysbar/ |

![]() Lily the Lion Has Her First Cubs! Belfast’s famous lion, Lily, has had her first pair of cubs in her new home in the Czech Republic. Lily is an extremely rare Barbary Lion, a species that went extinct in the wild in 1922. Lily was born in 2007 at Belfast Zoo and was hand-reared after being rejected by her mother. Lily moved to the Czech Republic in August of 2009 to meet a suitable male lion named Simon. They moved to Olomouc Zoo together, and are now the proud parents of these brother and sister cubs. http://www.zooborns.com/zooborns/2010/08/lily-the-lion-has-her-first-cubs.html |

Good morning! Deb, nice to see your trip photos to start the day. The Conowingo seems like a location where you are reasonably guaranteed to see some eagles. I've enjoyed all your holiday pictures. Best of luck with getting through that pile at work as quickly as possible. Happy 22nd Birthday to your grandson Jason, Carole. You did well withtaking a cell phone photo. I think the chicken must have been a teenage girl. Interesting about the Barbary lions. Lily seems to be a popular name. Off to kibble and then check out the SC update. I have physio today so I'm trying to finish off some more cleaning before I go. |

I haven't been to Thursdays Bar Carole but I see it is right in the middle of all the action and within walking distance of DS's apartment and where we usually stay when in Montreal so we will have to check it out next time we are back there ![]() Kibbled How did I manage to get the dog one wrong Never remember hearing about Barbary lions. Glad that this first time Mom named Lily was more maternal than Lily the Bear was. I think this shows survival 'attitude' ![]() |

Update August 3, 2010 - 9:15 PM CDT In the dark ![]() Well, not literally... but a contractor accidentally cut a line, leaving Ely and the surrounding area without telephone and Internet service for much of the day. This meant we were in the dark as far as the travels of the GPS-equipped bears, and we were unable to access emails, update the website, upload video, or post to Facebook. It meant we couldn't post an update in a timely fashion or post the promised video. In the field, we tracked down June a mile off the road and replaced her GPS batteries. In the office, we downloaded GPS locations until the cable incident. Lily and Hope have moved further out into Lily's territory and we assume all is well. Still recovering from the wonderful picnic. Thank you for the nice canvas picture signed by 204 of the picnickers. Thank you for all you do. Looking forward to tomorrow and catching up with the bears. ~Lynn Rogers and Sue Mansfield, Biologists, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center |
