Thank you all for the continuing thoughts for Ed. I know it must seem like the Neverending Story, it does to me. :'( He should know much more when he has the "oscopies" in a week and a half. It seems like Crohn's to the doc and by the symptoms and a neighbor who has it told me he's had two surgeries to remove parts of his intestines where the bleeding couldn't be controlled! "For better or worse" can sure be a Beach sometimes.

Topa, if you ever want to take Zoey for a stroll in Palisades Park when you're in SaMo picking her up and want company, give me a call. ;<> It's only a couple blocks away and it would be great to see you and Zoey. :ok:

Gotta' get going to be ready to meet DD, if her Kitty isn't going to Rainbow Bridge today. He's not been doing well and they think it's going to be time any day. :'( She'll be calling soon.

Have a great weekend, whatever you've all got planned.

:}^

BTW, since Grey Wolves are in mind today I remembered this enigmatic pic (I may have posted a long time ago) of my disreputable brother's Wolf, Bo, that I had in Photobucket; speaking of estranged sibs. He was quite big though doesn't look it on Grandma's looong sofa. This was her living room that is now Monica Mancini's backyard.

This kitty has found a safe place in my fenced yard.
Kitty has no collar.I think it's been abandoned, so I've been feeding it.
The kitty likes sleeping in my gargage. I think I've been adopted by a cat.

What a beautiful kitty Topa! I'm glad it's found you! :D

<::: Dogs of war will wear vests made by city firm

A dog performs night surveillance in a canine tactical vest from Winnipeg-based K9 Storm Inc.

Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION

When the U.S. military lets loose its dogs of war in Afghanistan or Iraq later this year, they'll be protected from enemy insurgents by Canadian-made canine body armour.

According to documents filed this week at the American government's online clearinghouse for federal contracts, the U.S. navy's special warfare group has purchased a set of "canine tactical vests" -- bulletproof gear for enlisted dogs -- from a Manitoba company.

(JOE.BRYKSA@FREEPRESS.MB.CA)

The $86,500 sole-source contract with Winnipeg-based K9 Storm Inc., finalized July 30 by the San Diego-based naval unit, calls for the delivery of four waterproof "assault" jackets -- coloured in "desert camouflage" or "coyote tan" -- to be equipped with "intruder communications systems" so the animals can serve as the eyes and ears of their human handlers while scouting suspected enemy positions.

Specifications for the "integrated canine assault vests" include video cameras and recorders, night-vision devices and signal-transmission strengths capable of penetrating "multiple concrete walls."

The contract with the Canadian firm, issued last week through the U.S. government's Federal Business Opportunities website, indicates no other companies were invited to bid on the contract because K9 Storm -- which also supplied protective vests for security dogs at the Vancouver Olympics -- is considered "the only known source for the subject requirement."

K9 Storm Inc. owner Jim Slater -- a former Winnipeg police officer who served with the force's canine unit until starting his business in 1998 -- told Postmedia News the "covert" and "security-sensitive" nature of the U.S. navy's plans for the dog vests prevents him from discussing the project in great detail.

But he said in an interview the company produces bulletproof Kevlar suits with special harnesses that allow dogs to be lowered from helicopters and to move easily in a host of hostile settings, including war zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan.

"I can't get into details with regard to mission specifics," he said. "But suffice to say, you're not side-by-side with the dog. The dog is broadcasting in situations where, if it goes around a corner, he's out of sight from you but you can still see what the dog sees."

Brilliant idea, the dog could sneak around a corner and send back video or images of what was happening.

Jill, your kitties are such good buddies.

Topa, will the cat bother your birds in the aviary? It looks like a nice, healthy cat.

Good news about the wolves getting more protection.

Kris, sorry to read about your daughter's cat.

That's quite a sight seeing the wolf lounging on the sofa like that. :o

Carole, have fun with your family and the critters today.

Kris, I'd love to go for a walk with you and Zoey next time I'm in SaMo.
Todays trip we are meeting at the 1/2 mark " The Net " in Malibu.

CDN, I'm sure the aviary birds are what drew the kitty to our yard,
but the birds are very protected by chicken wire.
We have chicken wire under the aviary also, so animals can't dig in.
I was worried about rodants.

Artsy, dog performs night surveillance in a canine tactical vest. :ok:

I was very surprised to read this in the PETA files;

John McCain Goes Maverick on Animal ExperimentsPosted Image

A report issued this week by Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Tom Coburn, R-Okla., blasts 100 "questionable," "mismanaged," and "poorly planned" stimulus-funded projects, including an especially cruel and wasteful experiment that the report aptly calls "Monkeys Getting High for Science." (No, it isn't another Onion story, unfortunately.) The study in question is being conducted at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, which nabbed $71,623 in stimulus funds (i.e., tax dollars) to feed cocaine to monkeys.

"I think all of [the projects] are waste," McCain told ABC News.

Sorry to read about Neptune...may his journey over the Rainbow Bridge be safe.
Want to post a couple of photos of "our" fishing wolf we saw at Brooks Falls. He was only there a brief moment just before we had to leave the area.
