Cheryl Cabaret sounds like it was a lot of fun! :)^ Wish I could have teleported there for a night out. :P Coincideltally, this week I was trolling Youtube for some diversion and looking for Bobby Short videos. He did a lot of Cole Porter , Gershwin, etc. Oddly there seems to be almost nothing on him, despite the fact he was known as "possibly the greatest cabaret performer of all time". Remember him from the Charlie perfume commercial eons ago? He was Gloria Vanderbilt's companion and even on Wiki there's no personal info, and maybe it's his estate that keeps his recordings off the internet. I couldn't find any great clips but did find a couple. This is from Cafe Carlyle in NYC where he performed for decades, and this short one from an ad for the WTC's top floor cabaret. :candle: :candle:

BTW: The writer, Christopher Isherwood, who wrote "I am a Camera" that the play Cabaret is based on used to live in Santa Monica and, curiously, kept his number listed in the phone book. Probably to keep young (male) admirers finding and contacting him. :ok:

Penny, that little owl does look like a Star Wars creature. Weren't there some children's toys awhile ago that looked like that? It sure liked getting its head rubbed. :P

Have you ever visited the High Tea Bakery that I mentioned the other day?
Cheryl That toy would be a Furby :P

They come in all colors and configurations :D

I haven't actually been to the bakery but I have eaten their cookies which are sold at The Forks in Winnipeg :Yum: :Yum: :Yum:

The High Tea's feature item, the Imperial Cookie, traveled all the way to the Golden Globe Awards this year.

Its three components (cookie, white icing, and raspberry jam) are delicioso. They even made this version for the Queen when she visited here this summer...

and they are on FB too at High Tea Bakery

Those cookies are too pretty to eat but I would eat them anyway. :Yum:

Tonight is girls night out with my 3 daughters. The one who lives in London, Ont. is coming in for a wedding so we decided that the girls should get together and have a fun time. We are going to a restaurant called Origin that DD Susan picked. I've never been there.

When Bai Yun and Shi Shi arrived in San Diego from China, back in September of 1996, the San Diego Zoo made it clear that it was committed to giant panda conservation. Bai Yun and Shi Shi captured the public’s attention, and the problems we encountered trying to get this mismatched couple to breed, mirrored the predominate conservation problem that researchers were trying to tackle at facilities in China: How do you get giant pandas to breed in a captive setting? How do you get pandas to do what should come naturally? Over the next 10 years, our interdisciplinary panda team worked tirelessly to study all aspects of reproduction, apply what we learned to the pandas at the San Diego Zoo, and develop a two-way exchange of knowledge with our partners at the Wolong Breeding Center in Sichaun, China. In 1996, only two females gave birth at the Wolong Center. Although captive breeding was only one component of the conservation puzzle, it was clear that without a self-sustaining and genetically diverse captive population, the ultimate goal of reintroducing pandas to the wild would never come to fruition. But how quickly things have changed!

I forgot to post about the Perseid Meteor Shower last night. Unfortunately, we couldn't see it because of all the cloud cover :(

Some people were calling 911 after witnessing the meteor shower and sonic booms. The meteors will still be visible tonight but not as spectacular....

Thanks Penny, I will report tomorrow how the food was and I will have some IP for sure.

I leave the battery in Furby as the 2 young grandkids play with him and when I removed
the battery once, he wouldn't speak, he forgot his whole vocabulary. rofl rofl Furby was a gift
from my DD when she lived in England, they weren't available here because of the demand and
there were lots of them in the UK.

<::: FWC Biologists Save Bear Cub With Jar Stuck On Head

Bear Cub Spent More Than Week With Jar On Head, Officials Say

POSTED: 3:32 pm EDT August 13, 2010

MARION COUNTY, Fla. --

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission biologists spent 10 days attempting to catch a black bear cub whose head had become stuck in a plastic jar.

Officials said the 6-month-old cub, its two siblings and mother had been seen eating from unsecured trash containers in a community near Weirsdale.

In late July, officials said they got a call from someone who had seen the cub running around with a clear, industrial-size plastic jar on it's head. Officials said the jar prevented the cub from eating or drinking.

Wildlife agents said they came up with a plan to trap the cub's mother, tranquilize her and catch the cubs.

But that was easier said than done, said one of the agents, as the mother refused to be caught in a baited trap and the bears always seemed to elude agents.

"Residents were really great about calling us when they saw the bears, but it seemed like we were always about 20 minutes behind," said bear-response agent Mike Orlando.

Officials said that after eight days of sightings, two days went by where the bears were never seen and the team feared the cub had died.

But when agents went to remove the traps, they got a call that the bear family was back.

Agents rushed to the area and Orlando was able to shoot the mother with a tranquilizer dart. He and agent Brian Scheick managed to catch the cubs by surprise.

Agents said the cub put up a fight, but they were ultimately able to get the jar off its head.

The mother and cubs were later released in a nearby, less populated area.

Lily the Black Bear - Update August 13, 2010 - 8:30 PM CDT

Den Cam Meeting Day

Posted Image
Hope & Lily - August 9, 2010

Not much news tonight. Today was a day traveling out of town to meet with engineers about how to install remote den cams. The ideas are still in development. The engineers are Lily fans, so you can be sure they will pull out all the stops to make the den cams happen. In the discussions, they became especially enthusiastic about the education potential of the den cams and how the Lily Den Cam led to teachers developing curricula, bear boxes, and all.

Tomorrow we'll catch up on all what's happening bear-wise.

Thank you for all you are doing.
