![]() August 16, 2010 Brown Stripes for a Baby Zebra A Grant’s Zebra was born Saturday, July 31 at the Kansas City Zoo to Mom, Jet, and Dad, Zanthus. She has brown stripes instead of black and weighed in at 79 pounds. Brown stripes are natural among newborn zebras; they will turn to black when she is between 9 and 18 months old. Every zebra has a different pattern of stripes. The stripes help them avoid predator attacks as they make it hard for a zebra hungry hunter to single out one animal from a fleeing herd. http://www.zooborns.com/zooborns/2010/08/brown-stripes-for-a-baby-zebra.html |

What a great photo of Zoey! Her eyes are so expressive and luminous. Kibbled both right yesterday; off to see if I can do it again.

Good morning! Hi there, Topa! Thanks for all the interesting posts for a Monday! Whooper Update: Wild Chick Report ..... photo by Doug Pellerin. Doug is a Craniac who drives 2 and a half hours every weekend to visit the Necedah Refuge with his wife Masako. He has a new, long lens for his camera. On Friday the 13th he was in the observation tower and sighted parents #9-03 and 3-04 with their wild-hatched chick #W1-10. It took Doug over two hours of patient waiting to get this photo of the chick since it kept bobbing its head up and down! The chick is 11 weeks old and is almost as tall as its parents. The average age at fledge is around 80 to 90 days. Be safe, little one. photo: Doug Pellerin

Kibbled both WRONG again...grrrrI did learn something new...a cat that acts like a dog...sometimes ![]() Cheryl talk about dedication. Wildlife photogs have to spend such a long time trying to get their Kudos to craniac Doug Prayers for Ed that his tests will be painless and provide his Dr's with the answers they need to treat his condition properly

Topa - Isn't Zoey the cutest, Rent-a-Dog . Adorable baby zebra. Only 1 right today .Cheryl - Nice family picture of the whoopers. It's wonderful to see #W1-10 with his parents, wish there were lots more success stories of wild-hatched chicks. Kris - for Ed and hugs for both of you .Very humid here today. Last night had a major thunderstorm so closed down all the computers and watched TV. |
