Penny and Sunnyland I'm so glad you found the Tongva info of interest. Thank you for your comments. It's such a disgrace they way they and other Native Americans have been treated, but in their case I'm sure it has everything to do with land value and location that they've been so abused. There never were many thousands of them to begin with and now only 1,500 survive, and none of full blood. We've had another nasty animal hating neighbor related issue that came up yesterday and we only just finished dealing with this morning. As I was leaving yesterday I spotted a cage type thing in the shrubbery between our garage entrance and the next door apartment building driveway. On closer inspection it was a nasty trap with a poisonous looking jar of bait in it. As you can see from the pic it was only a couple of feet from the sidewalk where children, Cats, and any other creature could easily get to it AND it's highly illegal to trap the local wildlife! I learned that last year when I heard the Homeowners association here was planning to trap and relocate the Squirrels because they thought them a nuisance! Of course I informed them of that at the time and didn't see any evidence of trapping attempts until yesterday. This one was no doubt to catch an Opossum or Raccoon, which manage to live in our neighborhood because it's close to Santa Monica Canyon and big houses with park like yards where a lot of them live.Ed stealtihiy removed the trap and put it in my car trunk and I drove to the Animal Shelter where they confirmed it was an illegal trap but they didn't want it and said to "do whatever you want with it". Great! So we had to then securely wrap the Peanut Butter jar that was in the trap because it looked like some awful thing that was not Peanut Butter and possibly poison was in it. Then we had to take the trap somewhere it would not be likely to be found and used on some other poor creatures so we drove to the more affluent neighborhood and found a large covered Recyling bin in an alley that homeless aren't usually seen and dumped the cage/trap in it. Last night we put a note where the trap had been that said: "Illegal trap removed and reported.". This morning the note is gone and we think they probably got the message. The Evil Trap in the bushes.

Hi, my name is Cheryl and I am an eagleholic, too. I'm visiting my mom so just popping in for a sec. She is on the phone talking to my brother. Hope everyone is well and enjoying their Sunday. Thanks for all the interesting posts, will try to look at everything as soon as I get a chance. P.S. Topa, I really enjoyed the Charles Darwin movie. It was more about him writing his book, not much about him being in the Galapagos but very, very interesting. He had quite a dilemma with deciding whether to publish or not since his thinking was so far outside the norm for the time. Bye for now. |

Thanks Carole and Deb It was nerve wracking trying to deal with it and not have the neighbors see or suspect what we did. We felt like the Scarlet Pimpernel. It seems most everyone in our neighborhood is a real jerk, especially about animals, so we didn't want them to suspect it was us. Ed's been yelled at so many times for feeding the crippled Crows on the block, but Animal Control has assured us there's nothing wrong with doing so! It only is in restricted areas like parks, or if you leave food on the ground, which we never do. Speaking about nasty people, as a footnote to the Crop Circle talk and in relation to forums, I have a true story to relate. Last year the large membershipped forum of the main Crop Circle information reporting website in England was shut down by the site managers after someone on the forum had spent months criticizing and attacking to a criminal degree a well known researcher who operated a small Crop Circle cafe and was trying to make a name for himself photographing the Circles. It got so bad that they shut down the forum and launched an investigation that revealed the very nasty forum member posting with a pseudonym and horribly slandering the other researcher was actually two of the most known Crop Circle researchers and the ones who make the most money from the subject! They're known for marketing their aerial photos of the Circles, and are the same ones in bed with the hoaxers, and market the hoaxes as "genuine" to maximize all their profits! The victim was threatening to cut into their photo business and they wanted to get rid of him by slandering his cafe, his photos, and him! Competition in the subject is so vicious and we've been subjected to our share from the same folks and others too. A few years ago the very same couple caused another aerial photographer to be denied access to flights out of the small local airports that they both need to use for their photography, by filing some trumped up false charges against her. The poor woman was so upset she made a public statement on her website about it and almost gave up her research. Clearing her name took the whole Summer so she didn't get many aerial pics that year. The maddening thing is that all this is behind the scenes and only known to the few involved. Meanwhile, the perps continue selling their merchandise, appear in documentaries and conferences as "experts", and are drooled over by all the Crop Circle groupies who have no idea what disreputable people they are. Jill I forgot to mention the beautiful Lompoc flower fields pics! There are miles of them at peak season. Do you know there was a Crop Circle at Lompoc in September of 1994? The same biophysicist who analyzes Crop Circle samples, and analyzed the Laguna Canyon samples we sent him, declared it "genuine", with the same cell expansion and stem bending without damage as seen in other genuine formations. The amazing thing was I'd had two dreams before it appeared that contained very specific details of its location, shape, attributes, and circumstances I'd visit it under. I've had many dreams of a psychic nature in my life and the ones I had in advance about it convinced me it was an authentic Crop Circle.

It seems we always see some fields of flowers when we do this annual Manifold cooking tour Kris. It would be nice if I'd bring my bigger lens next time & it'd be nice if we could stop for a picture (I'm afraid the road has no place to pull over for these anyway as it's a small two lane road). How interesting that you had a dream about the crop circle there before it appeared!
