Orphan Baby Bunny in Good Hands
ZooBorns' focus is squarely on baby animals at accredited zoos and aquariums. However from time to time we come across stories of orphaned wildlife that found its way to a nature sanctuary or rehabilitation facility. Such is the case with this tiny baby cottontail rabbit that was turned into the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in Mystic, Connecticut. Its mother had been killed by a dog but luckily the baby was unharmed. Now in the hands of Wildlife Rescuers of Connecticut, the rabbit will be released back into the wild when it is old enough to fend for itself. Special thanks to Nikki Perkins for sharing her photos.

US news isn't reporting this. Too bad for tourism. Officials open Fishing areas, declaring them "safe" but the Shrimpers won't fish because the Oysters are full of oil and dispersants. :8O: :'(

Now for something on the light side, but not calorifically speaking. seasick The Wisconsin State Fair just debuted this new "delicacy". Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheeseburgers.. There's even a Veggie version on that link. No word if it will make it to all their franchise locations. :haha:

:*: It's going to be a scorcher today. :*: They say in the 100s.

The two Hornby Eagles, 'Niner' and 'Brig', and the eaglet from Quadra, 'Rebecca', get a bath on a hot summer day. These eaglets are all of the same generation as PHOENIX , 2 hatching in nearby nests and rescued by MARS.

this new "delicacy"
Those are just seasick Kris :8O:

Maybe if some of these 'creators' were charged with contributing to the early death of Americans, people would not be subjected to this ridiculous heart clogging crap they call food

Critters on the Streets - When to Intervene (Part One)
Posted: Fri, 13 Aug 2010 10:28:01 PDT

Today’s subject was the basis for a NPR radio editorial I did years ago, but it was very brief, since they’re only 2 minutes long, and it’s a topic that I think deserves attention. I imagine all of us have been in a situation where a dog or cat (or other animal) crosses our path and potentially needs our intervention, and we have to decide what to do at that moment. I’m not just talking about an outdoor cat who is lounging on the sidewalk in front of what is clearly his home; I’m talking about a cat (or dog) who is clearly homeless, clearly lost, clearly in distress, or being abused or neglected - on the street or by a neighbor. I’m even talking about dead dogs and cats.

Now, I have no problem admitting to being one of those people who can’t resist greeting every animal I encounter. David patiently endures this on our evening walks – often drawn out by my need to pet every dog being walked and every cat lounging on the sidewalk. In fact, I know many of my neighborhood critters because of this. Also, because I run around my hood, I know who lives where and who looks out of place, and I’ve intervened many times, mainly because my eyes are always open.
I honestly don’t seek out wandering dogs or hungry-looking cats, but they seem to find me. Or rather, I don’t turn away when I see them. Once your eyes are open and you believe – as I do – that we’re all responsible for society’s animals, then you more clearly and more regularly see the needs of another.
Now, truthfully at that moment when I realize I have to intervene, my first thought is sometimes “oh no – “I’m in a rush, I don’t have time, this isn’t my problem,” but that voice is never loud enough to make me turn away. It never wins, because when am I NOT busy or in a rush? True – David and I try to make evening strolls part of our routine, but even then – or when I’m running – they, too, are part of my list of things to do that day, and believe me – I’m not happy when my routine is upset or my daily list doesn’t get completed.
And I get it. I get that it would be easier to turn away – certainly more convenient, including for my own cats who have to relinquish a part of their living space for whatever refugee happens to come home with us.
But if it’s not my problem, then whose is it? By virtue of being part of a larger community, I can’t help but feel a responsibility to care for all its members, particularly those who are the most vulnerable. This might mean intervening to help out a neighbor with their animals, or it might mean calling the police if you witness or suspect abuse. It might mean taking a stray animal home or to the shelter or feeding and spaying/neutering a colony of feral cats.

Still haven't made the blueberry muffins yet Topa because DH ate all the rest of the blueberries I had in the fridge on his cereal this morning

Kibbled :chk: :chk: and I am back to 50/50 after three days of 100% . It is usually the cat questions that are my downfall like the one today :P

Hope ES is able to get back from work without too much delay today Deb. I'm not up on what caused the fire, guess I should go find out more about it.

It is so windy and COLD outside right now :o The :rn: will be starting soon :(
At least the smoke is all gone for now :)^

Artsy, I just turned on the sprinkler for my lovebirds.
They like to do flybys in the water drops this time of year.
And bath in their water dish.
I have to change their water a few times a day because they only like fresh water. :D
