Good point Penny. Sort of in the way that Brad Pitt is now saying he'd considering reversing his position against the Death Penalty in the case of those responsible for the Gulf Oil Spill. Guess they'd argue it's people exercising their "Freedoms", but clearly many aren't capable of making healthy decisions, and need to be protected from themselves. And, with obesity the biggest health problem in the US we taxpayers should be protected from undue tax burdens on their account.

Here's something to make up for those nauseating Burgers. An awesome shot of the Earth and the Moon taken by NASA's Messenger Spacecraft.

Petition to save the BC Bears ![]() The BC black bears seem safe - for now. We are thrilled to announce that the Ministry of Environment has no immediate plans to euthanize the bears, and has been very open to reintroducing the bears into the wild. We greatly appreciate their efforts! But the bears are not out of - or into - the woods yet! Keep the BC Black Bears Safe These are the bears who were wandering around the illegal grow operation and the RCMP was considering having them all destroyed because they are too habituated to humans.

Deb, Help! I need admministrator!!!!!!!!! I had e-mailed Dr. Sharpe about joining by credit card.(I didn't have or want PayPal) (which I don't understand) He said there was a link to do it that way. I clicked on the site address and filled out all the credit card info for the $50 in 12month payments Then it said continue. I pressed that button. Then I got a Pay Pal page, which I didn't want (as I don't understand it) When I tried to go back to the previous page I don't know what happened to it. So I don't know if my info is floating around out there or if it cancelled. (this Tech stuff is so hard) Do you have any way of checking to see if it went through? Or if it cancelled out I'll just mail him a letter instead? So sorry I'm such a "dork" OK DEB YOU CAN DISREGARD THIS POST I RECEIVED AN ANSWER! thanks |

Carol - I've always sent Dr. Sharpe my credit card # and he takes care of everything, and it's very safe. I don't do paypal, too confusing for me but know so many people who love it. |

G'day Peeps! Another GORGEOUS spring day in Sydney. Hard to work when the weather is asking me to play... Ah well. KRIS! This hit our internet newspaper today. http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-news/welcome-to-the-centre-of-the-crop-circle-universe-20100820-138o1.html Obviously NOT scientifically oriented. The egg donut is gross. This morning I didnt do too much better tho, Walnut-Carrot toast. probably has too much sugar.Leo from my bedroom window (same view as my recent Sunrise pic). Its hard to get both Leo and the background, there is a software program that will combine two photos but I dont have it (and its expensive). ![]() ![]() |

Lily the Black Bear - Update August 24, 2010 - 9:36 PM CDT Ursula heads out ![]() Lily & Hope - August 16, 2010 Yesterday, 5-year-old Ursula visited the field station. She's not a bear we can approach in the woods, so we took the opportunity to tie ribbons to her collar. Good thing. Tonight we watched our computer screen as her GPS locations moved further and further away. She's headed back to her territory. ![]() Hope hamming it up - August 16, 2010 The two pictures of Lily and Hope from a week ago show how Hope is growing. We have yet to get her on a scale, but we'd estimate her weight around 50 pounds, which is a good healthy weight. She and Lily are together and doing well. It's always interesting to see how males and females who were mates back in May or June react to each other later in the year. The bond does carry over. In addition to the examples in earlier updates, Braveheart (8) and One-eyed Jack (about 15), perennial mates, met up today and were feeding 6 feet apart calmly and comfortably. With only a week to go before the Coca-Cola Favorite Park contest is over, Lily's fans have given Bear Head Lake State Park perhaps an insurmountable lead of more than 540,000 votes over Great Smoky Mountains National Park's 741,000 votes. We are still waiting for word from the Ely Superintendent of Schools on how they would spend $500,000 from Kohl's Care School contest. Meanwhile, teachers in 14 states are working hard on the Education Outreach project. Things are coming together faster than most people had anticipated. Thank you again for your ongoing support of our research and educational outreach. ~Lynn Rogers and Sue Mansfield, Biologists, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center[ |
