Just got this belt buckle at an antique store yesterday-
Posted Image

They have another one that is gold & silver & the eagle in that one is gold. It is a bigger buckle, more for a man. Sorry I didn't think to take a picture of it. It is $17 something. And I get 10% off there. Let me know if anyone is interested in that one & I'll get a picture of it. :D

a sense of wonder and dance - yes - thanks Cheryl
nice buckle there Jill!

went to the park where our scout is considering an eagle project! they have a science center (small) and will now be doing a day care project - it's a nice little park that has seen a ton of improvement the past couple of years! the lady he met with would like an outdoor education area but she gave conflicting wants so we're going to pull a few ideas together and give her a thought or two and see what we can work out together!

they had a redtail hawk aviary built a year or so ago and today we noted that there are now 2 inhabitants :( no one specifically to speak with about why they are there but I'm guess injuries of some sort - but now they are teaching raptors :) will try to learn more about them on next visit!

off to BBQ

2nd panda born in the Vienna Zoo on August 24th

 Posted Image
Screencap from video by Pandalover

VIENNA - A NEW panda has been born in Vienna's Schoenbrunn Zoo, the second to be conceived naturally there, the zoo said on Tuesday.

Mother panda Yang Yang, who made history in on August 23, 2007, by giving birth to Fu Long - Europe's first panda to be naturally conceived in captivity - gave birth a second time on Monday afternoon after around four hours in labour, the zoo said in a statement.

The new baby, whose sex cannot yet be determined, was born exactly three years to the day after Fu Long, who was returned to China last year.

As was the case with Fu Long, Yang Yang was actually carrying two babies, but the second did not survive said the zoo's expert Eveline Dungl.

The surviving panda weighs around 100 grams (0.2 pounds) and measures 10-12 centimetres (four-to-five inches) and will remain in the litter box with its mother for the next few months, the zoo said.

The zoo's panda house will remain closed to visitors for the time being to ensure the animals have absolute peace and quiet. Zoo chief Dagmar Schratter expressed 'great joy' at the news, but cautioned: 'The mortality rate among Great Pandas in the first year is around 40 per cent.'

It was therefore a tradition in China that the animals are named only 100 days after their birth, because not only the immediate post-birth period was dangerous, but the first teething as well, zoologist Dungl said.

Mating of pandas in captivity is extremely difficult, since females are only fertile three or four days a year.

Fu Long - 'Lucky Dragon' in Mandarin - was born in Schoenbrunn on August 23, 2007. He was the second panda to be born in Europe and one of only a few worldwide to be conceived naturally in captivity. Under the zoo's contract with China however, Fu Long had to return to his country of origin on his second birthday. -- AFP

Thanks Penny! I don't know what kind of plant that is. It was in a friend's yard of a house they bought & she didn't want the plant so I took it home. I've given away cuttings of it before, they're easy to grow. It has big succulent type leaves that are a kind of grayish blue.

I'm looking forward to wearing my new belt buckle! :D

After a 2 hour drive to Peterborough, Ontario, here is my surprise.................

"MAYA" <3 <3 Posted Image <3 <3

She is a three month old Yorkshire Terrier, a sweet delicious little girl and now that I am a puppy Mom again, the work in housebreaking and training is going to begin.

We just got home 20 minutes ago and she is asleep in her crate after checking out her new home.

Penny - You guessed right!

Cheryl what a nice film. :)^ It made me think of a great classic animated film that everyone here would love and I thought Youtube must have it but it didn't. It's called "Furies" and it's a wonderfully animated short film from the 70s by a female animator of two Cats moving so fluidly together in rendered animation that every frame looks like a pastel charcoal sketch. Film festival winning not widely seen by the general public. It must be named after the musical piece, and it's legendary among animators. <3 The "rendered" style is sort of like this one, all hand drawn by Corny Cole, an eccentric animator/artist I know and worked with years ago. My DD and his DS went to SaMo High together. He originally called it "The History of Violence" and it was done for the 70s film, "Heavy Metal", but not included because it made the rest of the film look too bad in comparison. He intended to do it through the A-Bomb but this version ends with WWII. His lifetime of artwork was lost in the "Merrik Fire" in SoCal a few years ago, along with his 16 Cats. :'( <:3

Jill lovely flowers and great find in that buckle. :)^

Lots to do but Ed's out walking his pain around the block so I had a minute to say Hi.
:}^

Oh Carole! I just saw your surprise when I posted this! How adorable she is, and so wonderful for you to "be a Mom again"!

A bloom on one of my plants-
Posted Image
This is a crassula perfoliata minor - better known as a "propeller plant."
I recognize it because I have a few of these, too - mine are just starting to bloom.
Brilliant scarlet red, multiple flower heads. According to my plant encyclopedia,
they also come with pink, and with white flowers. Native to South Africa.

G'day PeepS!

Ohh, some interesting photos and videos today, my Sunday, cooler than yesterday, but clear (for now).

Love the propeller plant, I too thought it was a type of hoya.

GORGEOUS MAYA! <3 :)^ :><: :chk: :chk: What a great surprise!

Penny, my stye is gone, just a little crusting now hardly noticable. My date was good, meeting up again today, possibly for a picnic if the weather maintains.

:}^ Ok, Sunnyland, I dont think Ive met you formally! Kath (Ozzie as peeps call me from Sydney, Aust but originally from CA). I looked up Merrill Creek but several States came up, where are YOU from?

Rachel is still here! Nearly finished with her essay. I let her sleep in her bed (now my bed) last night as she was complaining the other room is too cold. She is right, I was cold last night, didnt sleep well and those darn cats woke me at 3.30am fighting!

Working hard on her essay last night NOT!
