Artsy, The lovebirds have a very safe environment,
but they freeze in fear when a hawk lands on their aviary.
I was afraid the hawk was going to fly off with the cat.
The cat seemed clueless about the hawk.

We will have more :rn: and overcast skies again but it is nothing compared to what Hurricane Earl is bringing to the East Coast

Stay safe everybody who is in the path of this monster storm :X:

I just heard that Earl is swinging North so that is good news for most of the Carolineans that are not near the coastal beaches :)^

Holy crow Topa. I had no idea a hawk that size would try for a cat :8O:

I know that a large owl would go for a small dog though so a cat would be good prey for them too :o

Penny it's disgusting how people use their Dogs as accessories, especially in L.A. :'( It seems sometimes that every Bimbo on the street has a "Purse Dog" with them around here. Of course no obedience training so they're usually undisciplined yappers like our new neighbor's, who tried to bite Ed the other day. :hair: Poor things, just victims of stupid caregivers.

Topa great Hawk pics! His tail markings are so clear. :)^

I'm pretty wrung out from the past couple of weeks, with not much to be able to contribute this morning. :( Another doc appt. later and misc. chores.

I hate to see the worrying Bear Season now open, and pray no collared Bears are harmed. How can anyone think of going out and doing that?? I couldn't be civil to anyone who would. How about if the hunters had to wear bright ribbons too, and the Bear lovers were allowed to hunt them? I can't imagine our Eagles having a hunting season to worry about. :o

Breaking News I just heard that another oil rig has exploded in the Gulf of Mexico!! :8O: :hair:

<::: Breaking News: Oil Rig Explodes in the Gulf of Mexico

Posted Image :8O: :8O: :8O:

Rescue efforts are under way for oil platform workers after an explosion in the Gulf.
The workers are alive, but are in the water, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The explosion took place on an oil rig approximately 130 km south of Vermilion Bay along the central Louisiana coast.

Updated: Thu Sep. 02 2010 11:56:11 AM

CTV.ca News Staff

There has been a reported explosion at an offshore oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Casey Ranel said a commercial helicopter company reported the blast at about 9:30 a.m. CDT.

The Coast Guard has dispatched seven helicopters, two airplanes and four boats to the site, which is about 130 kilometres south of Vermilion Bay along the central Louisiana coast.

The explosion site is west of where the BP-owned Deepwater Horizon is located.

Ranel said it is not yet clear whether the explosion happened on a production platform or a drilling rig. It is also not known if any workers were on board at the time of the blast.

Smoke was seen at the site, though it is not clear if the rig is still burning, said Ranel.

CNN reports that the blast happened at the Vermilion Oil rig 380, owned by the Houston-based Mariner Energy.

With files from The Associated Press

Update

The New Orleans Times-Picayune describes the facility, called Vermillion 380, as a "fixed, manned production platform." The newspaper says the platform is not involved in drilling and, unlike the ill-fated BP rig, is not a floating rig, but rather is a fixed platform.

Update

CNN is reporting that there were 13 on board the rig. Twelve of them were rescued in the water and one person is injured.

Just popping in to say hi. It's still so hot here although cloudier so at least the sun isn't beating down. I keep saying to myself, "It's much better than a blizzard in January!" but it is wearing me down.

You got some excellent captures of the hawk visiting your aviary, Topa. I'm glad that he moved on, though, and left your kitty alone, too.

It was nice to look at Linda's picture of A-35 on my calendar again today. :)^ I wonder where A-35 is now.

Not another oil rig explosion, oh, no.

Beautiful hawk pictures, watch out for kittie.

Another oil rig disaster :8O:

Kibbled both wrong :chk: :chk: :(

Another good night with Maya sleeping until 6:45 this morning. I had to go grocery shopping so I
locked her in the kitchen crate, was gone for just over an hour and she was fine. Have to get her
used to being alone.

Then I started to do some cooking and baking for our holiday next week. It isn't easy with her under
my feet constantly. I learned that in the crate she goes when I have to open up the oven, she's
ready to jump in. :8O:

Have a good day everyone :Hugs:

Whooper Update: The two remaining wild-hatched chicks, #W1-10 and W3-10, have fledged! This is only the second time that this has happened for the ultralight flock. They were both observed flying with their parents this past weekend. W1-06 fledged in the wild in 2006 and remains part of the adult migrating flock.

The two cohorts of ultralight chicks are doing well. The wet pen at the Canfield site has been divided into two sections in preparation for combining the groups. The older chicks will be flown over to this site as soon as possible. The weather delays have begun and training flights have been possible only about every third day.

Carole, good idea to put Maya in the crate while you are cooking.
