![]() Good morning, everybody! It's so cold here today, what an adjustment. Glad that Earl has been downgraded. This graphic reminded me of some of the folks who were in swimming with all those huge waves, kind-of crazy if I do say so myself. Enjoy your outings today, whatever you are up to. |

![]() Cheryl your morning image is so pretty and apropos of Deb's Earl pics. Those nutty surfers will go out in the worst conditions. One died locally recently trying to "catch the big one" in dangerous conditions. Carol awesome waterfall. I always wanted to see Hawaii, but never made it. Closest I came was my "Gidget Summer" Polynesian dancer BF when I was 15. His whole family was a troup of dancers with three beautiful sisters who did Luaus and extra work in films. I've had these images in Photobucket but never a chance to use it before (sorry for the stupid size difference ), it's the dance he used to do: the Polynesian Fire Dance. I hate to admit it but I usually watch Gidget when it's on TV. I grew up fast after that and was married and expecting my DD the next Summer. (Parents asleep at the wheel despite Dad being a Cop.) ![]() There's a heatwave inland a few miles but where we are the fog is hanging in low and I can hear the Foghorn as I write this. My Amazon Parrot used to imitate the foghorn after every foggy spell we had. She could imitate sounds but never learned to talk. Topa loved the Dolphin pics. It's so much fun to watch them play. My beloved Lab, Bessie, used to have a chew toy exactly like the one the puppy has in that pic! She always had to greet you with at least one toy in her mouth, and usually as many as she could pick up. She'd take time gathering them in her excitement to greet you. I didn't know her at that age tho, she was older when I adopted her. DD and SIL are having the first weekend away that they've had in years. Their Kitties both went to Rainbow Bridge in the past year and they haven't had a chance to go anywhere while they were ill and in their last days. They went up the coast to Cambria, a lovely little town below Carmel and Big Sur that we visited when she was growing up. There's a Sea Otter Preserve there where you can watch the Otters for hours. Big Sur - with the scariest road to drive with the most awesome view. ![]() Lots of busy work to do today so I better get going. Edited by circlescribe, Sep 4 2010, 07:25 AM.

Cheryl in May of 2009 I posted this story from 2008 about a leucistic golden eagle on CHIL. I wrote to the Raptor Center about her to find out what had happened with her treatment. Rare albino eagle found in Colorado ![]() The eagle was found in the Pinon Canyon area of Southeastern Colorado by Rancher Tony Hass. His wife, Connie, took the photos as they waited for Division of Wildlife District Manager Jeremy Gallegos to capture the eagle and take it to the Raptor Center in Pueblo. The female eagle is thin and is being treated for parasites. The eagle's feathers are in such poor condition that it cannot fly. However, Raptor Center Director Diana Miller believes the rare eagle will recover and will be released in the Hoehne area in about three months. I tried to get an update on this eagle but could only find the following.... A Special Case On July 12, 2008 our raptor facilities admitted a very unique patient, a leucistic golden eagle. Leucism, also referred to as partial albinism, is a genetic condition where the bird's cells contains pigments, but not all of the pigments are turned on. In albinism, the animal has no pigmentation. The eagle (ID# 08-4082) is currently convalescing from a soft tissue injury to the left shoulder and extensive damage to its feathers. His recovery will take some time and there is no projected release date. For now he needs rest, good food and time. Because the golden eagle is under rehabilitational care, he is not available for public viewing. I have a sent an email to the Raptor Center asking them for an update and will post any information they give me when I receive a reply. Here is the reply I got from Diana Miller..... "Hi Penny, Thanks for inquiring about the leucistic golden. She is well. She has replaced about 80% of her plumage. We have had some trouble with bumblefoot. In consulting with others, many of them feel the foot problems could be due in part to vitamin D issues relating to the poor pigmentation. She is currently in a 120 foot flight and flying. Now that she's moving we are concerned with her vision. We are in the process of making arrangements for an avian eye specialist to take a look at her. It has been an interesting journey with this bird. Thanks for your interest and the work you do on behalf of our feathered neighbors. Best regards, Diana" |

Penny what a beautiful leucistic Eagle. Hope the poor thing will recover. I wonder if the coloring is a disadvantage in the wild. I haven't seen The Animal Rescue Site mentioned for a while so I thought I would. It's one along with Freekibble that I try to visit daily. The tabs at the top go to their other free to click donation sites like Child Health, Literacy, and Rainforest, and they have some great merchandise that also benefits their causes.
