![]() If you saw last night's posts - we went into NYC yesterday and made a trip to Governors Island - some place we had not yet been (and did a little caching in lower Manhattan ) We decided to rent bikes and see the whole island that way - it was very windy thanks to the tail end of Earl but temps were cool and great fun! Quite an interesting place - need to read up on all of the history of the island - it was an Army post / jail and eventually the Coast Guard were there and now turned over to NYC with the Park Service maintaining a sizeable historic area and several forts! Click on ES above to see our little slide show! |

Good morning all - hope everyone had a great day yesterday and a repeat today! Ozzie saw your FB photos - very nice especially you and Rachel together! Got home late last night - sorted the photos out this AM of our day in NYC - now trying to figure out what to do today! The weather is sooooo nice for a change - not hot at all (but that's coming back at the end of the week) phooey! Anyway - hope everyone is well and that Maya is behaving a bit better she's a puppy though and has to learn what's to be chewed on! She's really a cutie!

Vote for Our Great Outdoors ![]() Lynx. Wolves. Polar bears. Each of these wondrous, imperiled animals relies on America's great outdoors to survive— and they are all counting on you to speak out and vote in an unprecedented effort by federal officials to collect citizen input on the management and preservation of America's great wild spaces. In response to the Obama Administration's Great Outdoors initiative, Defenders of Wildlife's staff of experts has put together a series of ideas, and we need your vote to make them a reality. Help wildlife conservation be one of the top 10 ideas for America's Great Outdoors!http://action.defenders.org/site/PageServer?pagename=act_AGO_vote |

Thanks for the slides Ozzie and Deb. They were both great fun to view. Thanks for posting them. Artsy, I better take a long long walk today. ![]() I'd like to do a lot more than just light a candle for the bears Lerner, R. letter, Sierra, March-April 1991 1991 Whether hunting is right or wrong, a spiritual experience, or an outlet for the killer instinct, one thing it is not is a sport. Sport is when individuals or teams compete against each other under equal circumstances to determine who is better at a given game or endeavor. Hunting will be a sport when deer, elk, bears, and ducks are... given 12-gauge shotguns. Bet we'd see a lot fewer drunk yahoos (live ones, anyway) in the woods if that happened. Cousteau, Jacques The real cure for our environmental problems is to understand that our job is to salvage Mother Nature...We are facing a formidable enemy in this field. It is the hunters...and to convince them to leave their guns on the wall is going to be very difficult. Rodriguez, Paul comedian 1997 Hunting is not a sport. In a sport, both sides should know they're in the game. |
