Eaglepedia Revisited April 22, 2007 At 5 weeks of age, the eaglet's down is now covered by feathers and they are strong enough to stand and will begin to feed themselves. Soon only a few tufts of down will show through the growing feathers. They continue to grow bigger and stronger but still need the watchful eye of the parents to protect and care for them. Young eagles visiting the area would not be welcome at the nest (even Cruz) - the nestlings' mother and father would scream and fly after the young eagle and chase it away. ![]() 4 week old chick (not any of ours) This morning I was catching up on the nest observations from yesterday and I got a good laugh at the "Mysterious Blue Streak" out at the SC nest around 2:00 P.M. PST. Just goes to show, there are some very observant people watching these nests. The second blue fly-by was definitely a Scrub Jay, I recognize the flight characteristics of this comical bird. Here is an interesting link on what appears to be a special sub-species of the Santa Cruz Island Scrub Jay. (combined posts- PPatti/ED/Harpo) Courtesy of EagleDuo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUsHBqlVdqs http://bna.birds.cornell.edu/bna/species/713/articles/introduction AND Raven is the common name given to several large black birds of the genus Corvus. Other birds in the same genus are the smaller crows, jackdaws, and rooks. They are known for their intelligence and are perhaps the smartest birds. There are many observations in the threads of ravens harrassing all the nests - several of the members have posted photos/videos of the "attacks" - besides weather and lack of food - they would be the thing I worry most about as a threat to the chicks. Apparently they come in a large group to draw the parents off the nest so they can then approach the nest! Some members who have visited the area witnessed how many Ravens were in the area! http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/information/Corvus_corax.html ![]() Visit Eaglepedia DISCLAIMER: Information here has been gathered in good faith from the internet and cannot be guaranteed to be totally accurate. |

Just watched your Saigon slideshow Ozzie ![]() Buddhist roadside family shrines were very elegant and the interior in the Palace were lovely... the bunker command room with the retro phones Were the orchids just growing in cultured garden areas? Looks like it was steamy there compared to here. We are getting tonight and tomorrow and it was 74F yesterday

Buddy's 3rd Party April 28 Update biggerHappy Birthday, Buddy! Despite the chaos due to the arrival of the 2011 Norfolk Botanical Garden Eaglets — Buddy’s little siblings — Buddy was celebrated on this busy spring day. To mark the occasion, he was served a nice, tasty bluefish — which he managed to devour fairly quickly for having such a crooked beak! Buddy also received a new toy, which was highly entertaining. ![]() One of Buddy’s generous fans also made sure that the WCV staff were able to participate in the celebration too — with cake! biggerDr. Dave McRuer on the left......Ed Clark on the right |

Heads up for Sunday May 1st Notice To All!!! On Sunday Morning, The Wildlife Center Video Feed will be off line all morning for previously scheduled equipment replacement. This has nothing to do with the eaglets of the camera video feed. We are replacing our internal network server and installing new server cabinets. Don't Worry everything should be back online by Sunday afternoon. Even our phones and email will be down, so please don't worry!!! ![]() NBG Eaglets first breakfast (:28) Video tour of NBG eaglets new home (3:38) NBG Eaglets at WCV on their new nest Saturday at 1:06 pm EDT ![]() |

![]() A Belated, Good Saturday Mornin' Peeps....... Deb, Thank You for posting the Royal Wedding pix.....they were just beautiful. I also caught a glimpse of your Catalina slideshow.....I've often wondered about the condos you can see as you're pulling into Catalina....is that where you stayed??? Wherever it is, it looks beautiful.....and what a treat to see a beautiful Bald Eagle soaring in the sky. :soar: Penny, Thank You for posting the news about Hope, Lily, and Faith. I think it's appalling that the film producer seemed to hoodwink Lynn into thinking the footage that was used wouldn't be used inappropriately.....how sad that one must always be wary of....people!!! I'm worried about Lily now.....and I'm just praying that whatever illness she has, that it's nothing serious...... It's good to see Buddy....dang, I can't believe he's already 3 years old!!! He looks great, too. Thank You for all of your kind words about the NAC post......you guys sure know how to make a peep feel good!!!
