Eaglepedia Revisited April 18, 2007 Often the male eagle will have their prey taken from them probably because the male, being smaller in size, is the subordinate sex of the pair. Responses of the female when food is brought to the nest can range from a weak response - fluffing her feathers to maybe make herself appear even larger to a very strong reaction - a loud, long drawn out vocalization which can be ear piercing. Before the male lands on the nest, she will lean forward lowering her head, fluffing her feathers and calling out. This display may carry on until the male exits the nest. Even if the female is feeding on a fish, she may rush over and take his fish from him upon his arrival! Sometimes the female is OK with the male feeding the chicks and himself but sometimes, she demands control over all food. Given the female's dominant role, there are times when the male is not allowed to eat on the nest. Thanks for the JL card Topa. I hadn't seen that one before ![]() Love the NAC with Steffani Carole. Hope you are not too exhausted with sitting Shiva. The election results were quite astounding last night. Back to a majority Conservative gov't and the Quebec voters finally told the Bloq Quebecquois where they could go They were reduced from 48 seats in Parliament to 3 People were finally so sick of the Separatists they got rid of their leader too

When Love Fades... Last night I was sitting on the sofa watching TV, when I heard my Wife's voice from the kitchen. "What would you like for dinner, my love? Chicken, Beef or Lamb?" I said, "Thank you, I'll have chicken." She replied, "You're having soup! I was talking to the cat!" |

Can't get the eaglets on cam this morning so here's a story about the tribute to Ma Norfolk instead.Hundreds gather to honor eagle ![]() ![]() 13NEWS / WVEC.com Posted on May 1, 2011 at 1:47 PM Updated Sunday, May 1 at 1:54 PM NORFOLK -- The Native American drum group Four Rivers Drum played a memorial concert Sunday in tribute to the female eagle. Hundreds turned out for the event in the Matson Garden area at the garden. The group performed an "Eagle Calling Song," and other memorial songs to the female eagle and other selections to honor the male eagle. The three eaglets moved Wednesday from Norfolk Botanical Garden are doing fine so far at their new home in Waynesboro. They were removed from the nest after wildlife officials decided it was their best chance for survival after the untimely death of their mother. The female was struck by a plane that was landing at Norfolk International Airport on Tuesday morning. Even though the father was getting food for them that evening and into the next day, officials felt that it would be difficult for him get enough food as they grew. The eaglets arrived at the Wildlife Center of Virginia around 2:30 p.m. and each got a quick, 10-minute check up. "They spent the night inside the clinic at the Center and were getting a more thorough check this morning," said spokesman Randy Huwa. Thursday, each eaglet was getting a full physical exam and blood work so vets have baseline information on them. "Right now, they're in an indoor pen, just the three of them together. Later, we hope to move them outside into an enclosure where they can see an adult eagle (but not access the eagle)," explained Director of Outreach Amanda Nicholson. The center cordoned off part of its 100-foot flight pen. An adult Bald Eagle in rehab will be in one end and the eaglets will be in the other. "As the eaglets grow, develop, and fledge, we'll give them access to the FULL pen so they can stretch their wings and practice flying," Huwa stated.
