Good morning one and all
Rain headed our way here in NYC
ES hasn't really been too bothered at Ground Zero - actually his office is at Wall Street and so far it's just been the normal tourist craziness. However with the President coming on Thursday it might be a bit more crazy for him to go to and from work - oh well. He just keeps working on the Freedom Tower :)

The next couple of posts are going to highlight some of the ways that an eagle lover can help the IWS Project and personally - qualify for the 2011 Nest Adoption Prize Distribution where one could "win"

a chance to name one of this year's chicks

or

a tour with an IWS biologist on Catalina Island

or

a certificate/photo of a nest of your choice

and much more ........

so here we go.........

You can make a donation to the Eagle Project and receive a "green" shopping bag or even note cards!
(I've heard from a little birdie that there will soon be brand new cards available :><: )

(click on image above - scroll down the page)
This is one of my favorites - do you have a favorite eagle? or you can have your birthday or "lucky" number done - all on wingblings! Yes - Steffani will make your special order just for you - out of the same material as is used on the eagles. AND you can order small ones for your beanies!

Again - the proceeds of any of the above purchases or donations - can be used towards your 2011 NAC participation

AND remember - once you hit the $25 donation mark - you will automatically receive a Nest Adoption packet of the nest of your choice - woo hoo :**: :**: :**:

Also - a couple of the above choices will allow you to spread the cost of the donation over several months in a payment plan thru PayPal!

Time to get to work sooooo - catch ya later.......

Eaglepedia Revisited

May 8, 2008
2005 Eagle Nest - 3 Chicks - Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in Cambridge, Maryland :

At 7 weeks old, the eaglets will have almost all their feathers. At 8-9 weeks they'll begin branching -- or flapping and hopping -- to different parts of the nest and maybe even branches of their tree. At 10-12 weeks, they'll be almost as big as their parents and will be ready to leave the nest for their first flight.

As for the feathers, both of the oldest chicks have extensive feather development. The third eaglet still has a good bit of down, but black feathers are now visible on his body as well. Also, we're starting to see more of the eaglets preening themselves as they maintain their new body coverings.

Not too much bird music in the air here this morning...it is very windy and it's going to :rn:

My neighbors garbage bin came crashing down from their deck early this morning and woke me with a start. I hate it when that happens  Just in the middle of some crazy dream too :P

Meet Junior the Golden Eagle Ambassador at WCV

Posted Image

Junior was illegally taken from his nest in 1984 at an early age. At about age six months, he escaped his captors (or was released) and was found walking down a road in Merced, California, wearing jesses. His feathers were broken and shredded, suggesting that he had been kept in a wire cage. His feather condition left him unable to fly, and he was admitted to a wildlife rehabilitation facility for treatment, where it was determined that Junior had become imprinted on humans during his time in captivity. Junior came to the Wildlife Center in March 1985. Though his ability to fly has been restored, his imprinted status precludes his release into the wild.

His tail rudder balancing act is very

Brekkies is served to the Norfolk ^"^ ^"^ ^"^

Their nest is so realistic...too bad it doesn't sway in the wind. Their food is served on plates so it is easier to keep the nest clean of food bits and flies to a minimum :P

Yesterday they were weighed and there was a a bit of a surprise!

#11-0474: NZ: 3.41 kg (lost a little weight)
#11-0475: NX: 3.88 kg (gained 400 grams)
#11-0476: NV: 4.015 kg! This is a 1 kg increase from Friday.

The smallest eaglet is now the heaviest! :**:

Somehow I don't think this would have happened in their real nest :D

With nature comes joy and sorrow,
but it also brings happy surprises,
and the chance for small miracles...

Every nest, every egg, every chick...
brings HOPE for more joy and beauty in the world...
