Boom, boom, boom :><: great music for the NAC, Michele, and the banding photos matched so well. :)^ :**:

Kibbled :chk: :chk:

The dog maybe knew the statue was of a man who had loved playing with dogs before he died. That was a doggie who really wanted to play. <3

Cloudy and grey here today, too.

The eagle cards were so creative and poignant .... out of the mouths of babes .... had me crying.

Michele, fabulous NAC post and music choice! :)^ Tho when I tried the link it said it "wasn't allowed" in my area due to copyright issues. So I went to YT and found a version I could watch which seemed to be the original music video with the Cabbage theme. :P I've always loved that song, and then I got lost for a couple of hours in a Youtube loop of great music. :88:

Our homely little Ebay car got a washing this morning then it rained buckets this afternoon, of course, but at least it's cleaner than it was. Without a credit record here, and on a budget, Ebay was the way to go, but not much "customer service" on the car dealer's part. It seems like a pretty good little car though, a VW Polo, with just a couple of minor issues that should be easily addressed. :X: Ebay is an "as is" seller but great bargains can be had.

Having a car allows us to easily get to places just out of walking range and farther, though gas is the equivalent of about $10 per gallon. :8O: So today we went to a nearby ancient site of three millennia old burial mounds, or "tumuli", just on the edge of military land and a huge Pig Farm. Acres of adorable little "Babe" sized piglets and big Mommas, with Queen Anne's Lace bursting up everywhere. They each have their own little houses, sort of like a little trailer park, but with the shadow of their eventual fate looming. :'(

The island of Britain is so small and a lot of countryside borders on military land. Here there are signs and barbed wire to keep trucks and tanks off the ancient burial mounds to protect them. Last time Ed was here you could walk onto them but now they're fenced off. :(

Here's our little car at the edge of the road from the track we walked to the mounds on. We got back just ahead of a huge downpour.

Our local nature reserve is really getting green.

The Stork family in Germany now has three chicks, I think  , and today Mom was doing her "Mombrella" pose in the hot sun. <3

Kris, Thank You your for your kind words about the NAC post....they are much appreciated. The pix of the "Babe Farm", the Ancient Burial Mounds, and the Nature Reserve, were just beautiful.....what a truly lovely setting the countryside is. I'm happy to hear that you now have wheels....WooooHoooo!!! >O<
I was channeling you yesterday as I was putting together my NAC post....of course, Solsbury Hill is in England.....not sure where, but anything that's in England makes me think of you.

Cheryl, Thank You too for your kind words....I had such a kick doing this one....I'm a Peter Gabriel fan, and the song "Solsbury Hill" had always been a favorite of mine. George was telling me that the radio station may have been giving his songs air time because Gabriel and his band are planning a US Tour. I would love to see them when they play in Berkley..... >O<

Ok, I have GOT to get dinner going here....we always eat late, especially on the weekends.....tonight, it's gunna be chicken shish kabob and rice Pilaf....easy, schmeasy. :Yum:

Lily the Black Bear - Update May 7, 2011 – 7:33 PM CDT

Traveling bears

Honey and her blanket

In the last 24 hours, Lily, Hope, and Faith have traveled almost exactly a mile. Faith is lucky she’s not trying to follow Juliet, who made her 3 yearlings walk at least 6.2 miles in that time. The other two mothers with new cubs were stay-at-home moms again. Jo stayed within a 285-yard diameter area, while June stayed in a 322-yard diameter area. We’re leaning toward a male and a female for the two big cubs with June.

June ate a vole and some snow fleas today but no vegetation. There is no spring vegetation coming up yet in the heavily forested area where they are, so we suspect they’ll be moving on soon.

At the North American Bear Center, Lucky found a way to take advantage of this 60-degree day. He enjoyed a good squirm in his new pile of cedar chips and followed up by cooling off in the pond. Honey decided to air out the shredded blanket she snuggled with for the winter (picture).

Green-up continues with elderberry bushes leafing out, but bears don’t eat that kind of berry around here. These are the first leaves on bushes or trees we’ve seen this spring. Birds continue to arrive. The new one today at the field station was a pair of Chipping Sparrows. We heard a Black-throated Green Warbler and a Winter Wren while out with June today. The next Black Bear Field Course starts tomorrow, and again the group will be surprised to see snow. The last of the piles beside the road are shrinking but still over a foot deep in the shade.

The link to show support for making the black bear the state mammal is here Anyone, anywhere, of all ages can sign it if you have a web address. Only one signature per web address.

In the Readers Digest contest to win money for Ely, you still have Ely strongly in 6th place. The link to vote 10 times in a row each day through May 16 is here.

And you were driving the debt down again today as part of Team Bears Mother’s Day Special Event Presentation. It’s now below $65,000! Team Bear says they have crossed the threshold to Level 4 and one lucky winner will now receive all 4 prizes. It ends tomorrow morning (Sunday) at 11 AM ET. Thank you Team Bear and all who are participating.

Thank you for all you are doing.
