Penny..... I loved the Mother's Day card too....I love JL and think her cards are so well done.....I wish I had thought to prepare one to post here, but seriously, I completely forgot about Mother's Day until this morning.....doh...... No, no. no, I didn't forget MY mother.....I made reservations at a very nice restaurant, and the family will be getting together for a late lunch/early dinner. The tribute to Ma Norfolk made me The Norfolk nest was my introduction to Bald Eagles in the wild. Never before had I seen an EagleCam when my aunt sent me the link to this one. I was immediately hooked. I would rush home from school so that I could catch a glimpse of the eaglets before daylight ran out. Oddly enough, one weekend when the EagleCam was down, I began reading the blog, and someone had posted the link to the IWS EagleCams....and the rest was history.....

![]() To all my Cruzer friends, and to the Bird and Animal Moms we know and love. Anna, your NAC and Mother's Day post was absolutely wonderful! Penny, loved the GoE tale. And so true! We had Mother's Day, or "Mothering Sunday" as it's called in the UK, on April 3, but my precious DD called me today to have our weekend chat on our traditional Mother's Day. I miss her so much! Some days, make that many, I wish I'd never left, but there really wasn't a choice. ![]() |

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! Here is my fav pic of my mother and us sisters.... Cambria. ![]() My Mother's Day was beautiful here in Sydney, well, maybe a little on the cool side. Bob & were going to walk up the Library but on the way saw the Art Markets at the Kirribilli township was on so we decided to stroll through that. There was a book stall and I found TWO books (so in essence I did go the library!). My two choices were: Dewey the Library Cat (true story), looks sweet and simple reading http://www.deweyreadmorebooks.com/ The Lacuna _ In her most accomplished novel, Barbara Kingsolver takes us on an epic journey from the Mexico City of artists Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo to the America of Pearl Harbor, FDR, and J. Edgar Hoover. The Lacuna is a poignant story of a man pulled between two nations as they invent their modern identities. Did a crock pot of chicken burritos, Rachel's favorite so she turned up for dinner. She has been complaining, even before I left for VtNam that her hair/scalp is itchy and asked me to check it (again). This time I found LOTS of nit eggs and THREE live nits. The poor kid. It took me nearly two hours to go through her hair and pull them out as hair treatment just doesnt kill them off, you have to pull the eggs out. Bob & I both feel very itchy too now (altho we checked each other, no sign of em) and I changed my bedsheets bc she slept in my bed whilst away (even tho I already did change them on getting home). So that was my Mother's Day. Rachel really really appreciates her MOM! |

Lily the Black Bear - Update May 8, 2011 – 5:36 PM CDT Extra life experiences for Faith ![]() Faith high in a white pine - May 8, 2011 Today was a match of yesterday as far as bear movements went. Most of Lily’s movement today was in the morning. This afternoon, they settled into an area only 145 yards in diameter, giving Faith a little break in trying to keep up. Lily’s scat today was full of green mush, which means she is scarfing down the very digestible early greens now sprouting. It also contained bone fragments but no smell of meat, so she likely found the skeleton of a winter-killed animal that ravens and other scavengers had long since picked clean. ![]() Lily calling Faith down - May 8, 2011 The impressive thing with Faith is how her light little body gallops along and seems to be doing okay. Meanwhile, she is gaining life experiences. While June and Jo’s cubs are learning only a small area, Faith knows a large portion of Lily’s territory. And we know from last year that little cubs remember where they’ve been. As a tiny cub, Hope traveled two miles on her own to get back to a familiar area after Lily abandoned her in unfamiliar territory. Faith is the smallest cub we have studied in such detail. She is showing us what a wiry little cub can do. ![]() Hope - May 8, 2011 Team Bear announced that the lucky winner of the Mother's Day Special Event Drawing is Holly E. Best. Thank you all for so generously participating to bring down the debt! You raised $2,290 to lower the debt to $62,965. Fifteen months ago, no one would have believed this. No one would have believed the other things that have happened and are happening thanks to Lily fans. It would be amazing if your power led to the black bear becoming the state mammal. And that movement began with a group of first graders. This is the link to show support for their petition. Anyone, anywhere, of all ages can sign it if you have a web address. In the Readers Digest contest to win money for Ely, you still have Ely strongly in 6th place. The link to vote 10 times in a row each day through May 16 is here. Thank you for all you are doing. —Lynn Rogers and Sue Mansfield, Biologists, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center |
