Eaglepedia Revisited

May 17, 2007

The nestlings will have grown all their feathers by the time they are about 7 weeks old and they can stand and stretch, feeling the air rise around their wings! The eaglets will begin to experience "air time" as those air currents lift them briefly off the nest. They will turn into the wind, stretch their wings and tail and flap. Soon after (8-9 weeks of age), they will branch, hopping around the tree near the nest. They will eventually glide to nearby trees and then take flight!

AND

April 18, 2008
The first downy feathers are kept for about three weeks; after that a second downy plumage replaces the first. This secondary down plumage is long, thick and woolly, and a darker sooty gray color. When this happens the legs also start to turn the recognizable yellow. By the seventh or eight week of life juvenile plumage has replaced the secondary down and within the next several weeks will fully develop. Juvenile eagles have a bluish black beak and dark brown eyes.

AND

May 9, 2008
The eaglet's fluffy down begins to change into feathers. The eagles can't fly successfully until their feathers have completely grown in. First flights can be dangerous.

New flight feathers can be seen coming in when the eaglet is stretching his wings, but he is still just fuzz underneath. Black juvenile feathers begin to grow in to enable the juvenile eagle to fly. While downy feathers are excellent insulators, they are useless as air foils, and must be replaced with juvenile feathers before an eaglet can take its first flight, some 10 to 13 weeks after hatching.

me either - I'd be hard pressed to try some of those foods :o

sunny cloudy sunny cloudy ---- what a day!

boss has arrived
they totaled his car from last week's accident - the girl hit him on driver's side wheel area - bent the car every which way - apparently she hit it in just the right spot - wow
it's not even a year old :( so he was shopping around yesterday trying to figure out what to do .........

I really want to go into the City tonight for dinner ......... if I run home after work - tend to Trin and get myself to Mineola - I should be able to make it to the City in reasonable time -
the problem - I know how to get to ES from Penn Sta. but I'm not sure about changing trains in Jamaica to get to Wall Street via train/subway

I can do it with ES but never done it by myself and I want to surprise him so don't want to ask for his help.

Hmmmmm maybe I'll stick with what I know if I do indeed decide to go ...... ;)

I just couldn't beleive it when I first saw this :8O:

Danish director Lars von Trier had a meltdown in front of the Cannes press corps on Wednesday that rivaled the destruction of planet Earth in his own film 'Melancholia'.

Posted Image

Kirsten Dunst is squirming sitting beside this Danish film director as he talks at his Cannes film conference. What a stupid boor

Good afternoon, everybody.

Cool banner for Eagleland, Carole and Bette. I'll be sure to watch the videos, Penny, likely later this evening. Thank you again for posting the photos and the video links.

Deb, I hope you are able to surprise ES, that would be so nice and romantic, too. Your presentation today was such a treat with all the eagle pairs and the Cruzers being featured. :><:

Mia is almost back to her regular self. She was perfectly normal yesterday, then we put them in separate crates while we went to help Ian (new lawn mower) and Allison (no idea what her plants are, needed trimming). We didn't put the puppies together because we weren't sure about the biting from Mia. They are fine when they sleep together at night, but during the day we were hesitant. Anyway she hates the crate, always whines and cries and howls. Wynn doesn't mind. I really think she made herself sick, either from being in the crate or from being separated from him, or both. We rushed and were only gone for an hour. She was sick repeatedly right up until bedtime.

The sun is out but we'll have to do some staggered gardening work with one of us inside to watch the dogs, jeepers. Ian and Allison's place looks great and ours doesn't. How did that happen? :o :D
