Yes, it makes me sad, too, Harpo - but it is a happy kind of sad, kind of like being a parent and seeing your kiddos grow up. |

Eaglepedia Revisited June 5, 2007 Part III - The father may barely touch the nest with food, taking off again quickly, but the female may stay on the nest. She probably is not harrassed like the male because of her size and she may be observed trying to feed the eaglet. The female will tear off a piece of meat, holding it to the chick but it will probably not eat much. The adult will soon leave. The male rarely tries to feed the eaglet because they snatch the fish before he is hardly on the nest. The male may have a few bites of the fish before delivering the balance to the eaglet. In the beginning, he could bring the whole fish to the nest and have a bite here an there. "The Bald Eagle" AND May 18, 2008 For the eaglets, the advantage of a crop is that they can quickly swallow food that their siblings might want, and for the adults it means the chicks can go longer between feedings. Besides storing food for later consumption, the crop also stores indigestible material -- like bones and scales. These unusable food pieces are captured in the crop and eventually molded into pellets that are later regurgitated. http://www.friendsofblackwater.org/eagle_c...5/04/index.html (Nesting - Caring for Chicks - Development) Visit Eaglepedia DISCLAIMER: Information here has been gathered in good faith from the internet and cannot be guaranteed to be totally accurate. |

Dr. Sharpe will be sending out emails to everyone who has participated in the current effort to be sure that the appropriate credit has been given and to insure that no one gets lost in the "shuffle" ![]() I'm sure he'll post when he does it or I'll try to keep an eye out and notify everyone. If you don't get an email and you did send something for the ongoing effort, you'll have to email him to get your credit stay tuned....... June 3 is nearly here (oh my where did the spring go....... hello summer) |
