G'day peeps, my Monday, very heavy rain. It started last night whilst the cats were still out. So I put my boots on, umbrella in hand and walked the 'hood. Leo was under my car, carried him to the back door. Tiger was harder to find, several doors down the street under a thick bush, had to carry him too. Very impressed the kids helped out Jillers and thank you for saving the baby crow! for Kris & Ed finding a new placeLove the baby clouded leopards~! The Eagle He clasps the crag with crooked hands; Close to the sun in lonely lands, Ringed with the azure world, he stands. The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls; He watches from his mountain walls, And like a thunderbolt he falls. By Lord Alfred Tennyson ONLY ![]() http://s11.zetaboards.com/IWS_Eagle_Forum/index/ scroll to topic 2 for ideas on how to help IWS help our wonderful eagles. ![]() With ONLY 5 days left of NAC 2011, stop and think did I do enough? can I do more? (have I any money left? rofl) do we have enough money for another nest? Last I heard we had 15 nests adopted, and on that note I emailed Peter and said re-up my monthly donations for another year please Will you do the same? |

Hi everybody! We actually had a nice day today so got some outside jobs done. Anna, bravo for your super eagle photos and the perky reminders to folks to get cracking. I liked your Memorial Day theme, too. Awesome video of Dr. Sharpe. I've forwarded it to my family members. Thanks so much to George for posting it and to Penny for sharing the link over here. I would hve missed it.Ozzie, I can just feel the wind blowing and the sailboat rushing through the water with your words. I can tell that you just love sailing. Glad you were able to locate your cats and get them back home. Jill, I was worried about Kris and Ed since we hadn't heard from Kris. Thanks for telling us that they are ok, and have a couple of possible leads for a home. Well done on your crow rescue. Cool that the children knew about the eagle cams. We have lightning here, have to log off. Wonderful eaglet fledging news and I enjoyed the Eagleland photos as always. Bye for now.

![]() Good Sunday Evening Peeps..... Anna, OUTSTANDING presentations today.....I so love seeing the captures of the Sauces Nest, along with our usual favorites. Great Job!!!
Topa, what a wonderful opportunity for a getaway vacation for Rachel and John. The pix you posted looked like they were straight out of paradise. Is Rachel now off for Summer Vacation from her school??? Jill, WooooHoooo for your rescue today!!! I thought it was pretty awesome too that the family you ran into at the Bird Rescue Center were not only aware of what to do with their rescued Swallows, but were aware of the EagleCams......that is pretty danged exciting.....and it's due to teachers like Regan bringing the EagleCams into the classroom, and teaching them about wildlife. Carole, Norfolk triplets are fledging!!! Oh my word....where does the time go!!! Thank You for keeping us updated with Eagleland.......I dread when the nests will once again be quiet. Bette, Thank You for the support data for Eagleland. The time that both you and Carole put in each day for our benefit, is greatly appreciated. Oooohhhh Ozzie, I could just picture you combing the neighborhood looking for Tiger and Leo in the pouring rain....now that's love!!! I still have lots of links to go back and click on....with the exception of the link Penny posted of the CBS report. Dr. Pete did an awesome job, and I loved the shots from the Banding of the TR chicklet. Thank You George for posting that, and to Penny for bringing it over here. |

I knew I'd forget something..... Jill, I'm so happy to hear that you've heard from Kris and that they may have a rental lined up. Since we hadn't heard from them, I was getting worried too. Thank You for posting the update here.....you're a sweetheart!!! Thank You Cheryl for reminding me!!! I have been so fragmented lately.....it used to be that I would only get that way when things were nuts at school....now that I'm retired, I have nothing to blame it on.....doh....

OMG We decided to head to NYC and visit some of the Fleet Week displays (if the lines weren't too long) - popped onto the train - got to Penn Station - took the subway up to 42nd and started walking to the Hudson River piers! Not really too hot but muggy .... ![]() Get there only to be told that all ship displays were closed today because the cruise ships had come into port and there was a potential for risk So we put our heads together and decided what the heck - back to Time Square and back on the subway - let's go to Staten Island cause the USS New York - the newest ship and the one with Tower Steel put in the bow of the ship....... was open! Walk walk walk - hop on subway only to find out below 14th, no train due to track work - to the Ferry - so we stay on to Wall Street - stop at Gary's office to "refresh" then walk to Staten Island Ferry which is only a few blocks. Ferry comes in and we get to SI - but no signs on how to get to USS NY (we can see it though) - no one there to direct you .... a bunch of us ended up on the street googling on our phones and finally it says take a bus or walk (about 20 mins)...... no bus ever came so we walked ...... and the neighborhood wasn't all that wonderful - not awful but ..... The ship is ahead of us finally - we find the gate and head in - it's now about 2:15! Tours until 5 - we should be good! WRONG-turns out we were good but about 5 minutes after we went thru the gate - they closed the line - we were about 100 folks from the end! They kept telling us over and over - no matter what it took - we'd be getting our tour.We stood there in that line which moved like molasses, for over 2 hrs. - in the sun but with a breeze! We crawled ever so slowly to the security area and finaly - FINALLY - it was our turn! Gary had to take his camera part - he had to turn his phone on so they could see it was just a phone! etc....... only to move around the corner to stand in another line They were letting groups of about 25 at a time on the ship with 2 guides - no wandering around on your own! Security lets us thru that gate finally and we now move up to another line - the last one that will eventually get us on the ship. At least another hour and we finally are assigned to our group and up the ramp we go! Our guides were wonderful - especially knowing that they've been doing this over and over for several days now! The demonstrations and displays inside were wonderful and all of the navy/marines were so polite - thanked us for coming - just great! The ship was so different than any I've been on - the hull has an angle in it - none of the "towers" are open display - all screened - outstanding ship! The bottom part of the front of the ship is where the Tower Steel was used and there is a purple heart there too! Commissioned in November 2009 so it's pretty darn new! No wonder we couldn't just walk around .... http://www.ussny.org/ So after more than 3 hours of standing in line - we did our tour! Now how to get back to NYC - hey look a train! So we followed the shore leave guys and hopped the "train" - Staten Island version of the subway - back to the Ferry only to find out it had just gone to Sunday night service and we'd have to wait a bit longer for our boat Finally back to NYC - quick bite to eat - home now - and yes, a bit sunburned - but guess in the end well worth it! The ship and crew were outstanding! We thought about going back in tomorrow to visit the Iwo Jima but don't think we are up to it Oh well - next Fleet Week. |
