Nest Update Blackwater Ospreys

06/01/11:
Good news this morning! All three chicks were visible and looked healthy and alert.
The heat will continue for another day or so, but then it should cool off.

We'll update the Osprey Cam Web Log tonight.

Eaglepedia Revisited

May 11, 2007

Pin feathers are the beginning stage! Feathers are wrapped in a thin shaft of tissue which will split and the new feather will unfurl and grow! Feathers are made of keratin - like our hair and nails. There are several types of bird feathers - contour feathers which cover the bird's body on the outside, flight feathers on the wings and tail and down feather which is close to the skin protecting from the heat / cold (insulation).

AND

March 7, 2007

Baby birds like duck, are fully feathered and able to leave their nest immediately - they are known as "Precocial" young. Other birds like pigeons, hatch with few feathers and are unable to stand on their own, not able to leave the nest immediately - they are known as "Altricial" young.

G'day Peeps, My Thursday, working from home (but have to attend a City appt today), the sun has finally peeked out at sunrise, beautiful. Love the morning pinks and oranges.

Have fun relaxing today Harpo, you sound like you feel a little better.

Jeanne, another sporty posting, just love it. My DD wants to have her 21st Bday party at the Australian Jockey Club, horseraces. I'm of mixed emotions about it, on the one hand I love horses (as does she) yet on the other, I know how horrible the race industry can be to horses.... a dilemma.

Hope everyone is feeling well and happy, TWO DAYS TO GO.

Cheryl, I didnt post about it yesterday, but will today, thanks for the WC update!

Yeah Kath I'm right there with you on not wanting to support something that is less than good for most animals. it's tough as you say! I don't go to circuses either.
