It was great to be able to talk with ES briefly yesterday

I'll hear from him later today when he comes into base camp off the trail and prepared to make the trip home tomrrow!

I have lots to do (cause I've been a bit lazy when I could) - so will have to get to it! LOL

sending special thoughts to all who need it :Hugs:
you've all been there for me from time to time and I return it to you ten fold!

Well only a month to go to the wedding ...... plans are moving forward and everyone is getting excited!

Can't wait!

of course I have a week at summer camp with my scouts which is some of the things I need to do today - 1 week from today we'll be headed upstated to Onteora - Land In The Sky!

TV is on and I'm not paying a lot of attention cause I'm doing camp paperwork - that Sons of Guns is on - geez why does anyone need that many or those kinds of guns ...... ...... but that's just me .......

we had a couple rifles on the farm and I do shoot at camp but I don't want to own one and I'm certainly all about the kids learning all the safety rules

but this show - those are beyond a simple rifle ......

anyway need to run out for a bit ...... BBL

It's Ice Cream Day, in the US anyway according to Yahoo News, so Happy Ice Cream Sundae! :P

Deb, looks like ES and the scouts had a great trip, apart from the tent damage. :o I can imagine how great it will be to have him back home, beard and all. :P

We went to this local megalithic site on Friday known as "Devil's Den". About 20 minutes from where we live. It's in the middle of a Sheep field but the public right of access allows people to visit it. The balanced stones are what remains of an ancient burial mound, and is called a "dolman". The stones were the inner chamber of a burial site that was surrounded by more stones, then covered by a huge earthen mound. There are many of these stone remnants of ancient "long barrows" in the UK, and countless long barrows and tumuli mounds all over. Ed seems to know most of them, especially locally.

A bit closer.

A couple fields away is this area known as the "Grey Wethers". This is only a small part of it. The grey stones were deposited in the small valley by a glacier eons ago.

This is our young Magpie, taken out the kitchen window. He's so beautiful and cute. Yesterday a Pigeon was hogging that big fat ball behind him, and little Maggie wanted to get at it, but is afraid of the Pigeons. He sneaked up on the Pigeon's tail and pulled on it, then jumped away, continuing to try to sneak in and peck at the fat ball. The Pigeon charged him and kept eating. So funny, wish I could have filmed it! We run the Pigeons off whenever we can without scaring away the other birds, and I made sure Maggie had his turn. :ok:

Deb, I think some of these sites were eroded over time and also purposely destroyed by competing peoples. I know in the case of Avebury, the largest stone circle in Europe, that people in the 1700s destroyed many of the stones and used them to build houses within the site. The Devil's Den is a Dolmen that was originally the center of a long barrow mound like this famous one at West Kennett, which is very close to Devil's Den. It dates back to 3,600 years BC! There are so many ancient places here, Ed calls the valley we live in "The Temple".
This is Ed in the far recess of the West Kennett Longbarrow. His light reflective boot tips are glowing.

very interesting Kris thanks
I'll check the topics and merge

and

I forgot to share this ..... off to the Dr. Fri morning and at one of the busiest intersections on the island, there's a highway storage area and a cell tower there - as I approached - something didn't look right on the tower

WHOA big nest - what in the world??? and a young osprey sitting out on one of the arms......

I u turn and get out the cell (sorry no camera with me)

and as I get back on the road, approaching the traffic light - one of the parents flies to a tree with fish! guess he wanted a couple of bites before delivering to jr. waiting on the tower :)

G'day Peeps! My bleary Monday, COLD, partial clouds, more rain coming. Bob not well, left him in bed~ too much rich food I think (he has a v.sensitive tummy) from a Bday party we went to yesterday.

How cool are those stone formations Kris, and the glacier rock garden is neat too.
