I've been voting every day in the Eagle Rare contest and I will continue to do so. However, I did delve into the rules and thought I should make everyone aware so there is no disappointment at the end. Even though Dr. Sharpe is one of the top votegetters he still may not win anything. There are several phases to this contest. After all the stories are submitted, the contest sponsors select the 20 stories they want to go forward with. They pick the ones they want not necessarily based on votes. The 20 stories are then put on their website for further voting. At the end of the voting the sponsors then pick the 7 stories they think should be awarded prizes and they then judge those stories based on a criteria published on their website. Voting only counts 10%. Another thing I'm not sure people realize is voting goes until January 5, 2012. One disadvantage I think we have is that Ed Clark from the Wildlife Center of Virginia (where the Norfolk triplets are) is also nominated. He has a much larger lead than Dr. Sharpe has. Based on the comments made after the Chase Giving prizes were awarded, I'm not sure the judges will pick two wildlife stories. There were a lot of comments by people complaining because animal and wildlife groups won in Chase Giving as opposed to "People" charities. I hope I am wrong but it doesn't hurt to be pre-warned.
