For the first time in its history, the Wildlife Center of Virginia will be releasing FIVE bald eagles in a singe event. We will be releasing the three Rock Stars from NBG, but we'll also be releasing a bird from Hampton that cam in on June 3, and the bird from King & Queen County that cam in on July 14.
All five birds are young-of-the-year. All five will find ample food, habitat and other eagles in this area. Berkeley Plantation is an ideal spot for this to take place.... it will be a celebration of the recovery of the bald eagle in Virginia and in the United States.

Good morning peeps!

I need some prayers :candle: for Maya this morning. She is at the vet undergoing x-rays and tests. Last night she had a bit of an upset stomach and then threw up. This morning she seemed better until she went outside to poop and she passed lots of mucous and blood which was so scary.

I just got a call from the vet and he is very happy there is no obstruction in her tummy. He thinks it is a bad bacterial infection that she could have picked up outside maybe eating something. Next step is a bit of barium to re-x-ray her to check her small and large intestine. He said it is common but understands how upset and stressed out I am now. He was very re-assuring and has already started medications to settle down her tummy and also an antibiotic. They are also monitoring her for not getting dehydrated.

He will call me back in a couple of hours when he has more results but did say that if all is well, he would like her to be at home as they get too stressed out at the vet.

Will report later when I have more news.
:X: :X: :X: :X:

Elaine - Eagle release will be on Wednesday, July 27th at 11:00 a.m.

NORFOLK -- The eaglets we've all watched on Eagle Cam this season are going to be released into the wild next Wednesday.

Berkeley Plantation on the James River will be the site. The three eaglets have been under the watchful eye of the Wildlife Center of Virginia. You may recall, the mother eagle at Norfolk Botanical Garden was hit by an airliner in April and died.

WVEC.COM will stream next Wednesday's release live beginning about 11:00 a.m..

"It will in all likelihood be the best seat in the house. We expect a lot of people to come out to this release and with the size of the crowd, people will probably be able to see more right from the web feed that will be provided," said Stephen Living of the Virginia Game And Inland Fisheries Department.

The male eagle has been seen near the nest at Norfolk Botanical Garden. Experts think the odds are pretty good that he will take up with another female next fall.

I've had the Eagle Rare Life Honor update the write-up and add some photos. It now includes a link to the recent documentary at the bottom.

Hello, everybody. :}^

Five juvenile eagles being released, how fantastic! :><:

We finally got a decent amount of rain last night. It's hot and muggy again today, though.

Carole, my apologies that I ended up with the same delphinium flower. I already had the graphic for Bette all finished and then I saw your photo.

That's good news that Maya does not have a blockage. I'll be sending get well thoughts her way. You are having so much stress right now.

I just brought Maya home from the vet and she is one tired puppy. Can't feed her until tomorrow morning, her tummy needs a rest but she can have water. The first thing she did when she got home is look for her food bowls, poor little munchkin. I have 2 meds that she will get in the morning and at night. It's definitely a bacterial infection that she could have picked up outside, and quite common. Thank goodness all the x-rays were good, no blockages or obstructions. Going to lie down with her now, see ya'all later. :}^
