Lake Casitas is in the spot light again.

Rodent poison seeps UP the food chain, we know-it-all humans should not forget. Eradicating the ground squirrels with desiccating agents around the watershed of the very drinking water lake (that we are not allowed to swim in, for fear of contamination) is sort of like pooping in our own mess kit, isn't it? And the raptors and critters waiting in the food web above the rodents are in line to die after dining, also... pretty sad situation.

She Likes Pink: First Baby Elephant in Czech and Slovak Zoos
Posted Image
An Asian Elephant female named Rashmi was born on April 12, 2011 in Ostrava Zoo in the Czech Republic. She is the first ever elephant baby reared in Czech and Slovak zoos! Mom Joht is 44 years old and Calvin, the father, is 25 years old.

Baby Rashmi - which means "ray of light“- is very curious and self-confident, as proven by her recent efforts to start exploring the world around her. She even occasionally dares to leave her mother to go short distances when in the outdoor enclosure. Her first attempts to to hold and carry objects with her trunk is improving.

My DD, Lori, sent me a link to this article on this amazing "Blue Raspberry" shaped planetary nebula that was recently discovered by an amateur astronomer.

Just want to say it's going to be very hard for me to check in or even keep up for a while since we're moving in a few days and now have to focus on that, and THEN we'll have no phone or internet for maybe three weeks!! :8O: :hair: :'( I'll be going to the library to check email but will not have easy access, especially at convenient hours for Nest Time. :'( I may pop in over the weekend but Tuesday is moving day and it's going to be a real challenge, to put it mildly. Will check in when I can.

Ed Clark, WCV: Yes, very soon, we'll be getting the Buddy cam up and running :**: :**:
(That will be along with multiple 'Critter Cams')

Comment From Steph: Ed, is it hard to throw the bird up in the air when you do the release?

Ed Clark, WCV: Go out and toss an 8" concrete block in the air.

Comment From kimb in Free Union VA:
OK, I'm going to be nit picky here: I think there's a difference between dead weight (concrete block) and live weight (eagle). Just sayin'...

Ed Clark, WCV: Yep.. the concrete block won't try to rip off your nose, just before you toss it in the air.

rofl rofl rofl Some great TGIF :<<o>>: humour from ED to end off the week

Penny - I love Ed Clark and all his comments, that's why I read the Norfolk chat early in the morning when he is on. He has a great sense of humour and says it like it is, no nonsense from him.

Kris that Blue Raspberry Nebula is a stunning structure :)^

What an >O< :clk: of it too....the Universe is so full of amazing beauty and we are but ants in relation to it. (probably more like grains of sand)

Don't worry about not posting...we'll still be here when you can get to the library and reconnected to the Internet in your new home. Take it easy with the move...by this time next month it will all be just a dim memory :P

Yes he is so self-deprecating in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way

I love how he refers to his 'new' wife of a year as 'Dr. Sweetheart' <3 to protect her privacy from the mobs of 'Eagle Nation' cameraholics :D

I went by to see Bette today about 4pm. She had just returned from lunch with her lawyer friend & other friend Dave. Sounded like she really enjoyed her lunch of BBQ beef! The hospice worker was to be there until 7pm. Helen came by so we both were there to visit & Sydney joined us too. I left about 6:20. Found out Bette likes Lazy Acre's Cream of Broccoli & Cream of Potato soup. So I looked up online & they have the potato one on Sunday so I'll get some of that & go visit again on Sunday.

I did not bring flowers today as when I called Bette's house there was no answer so I didn't know if she was home! :D

Bette is in good spirits. :D And more organized than most people! :D

MINE TOO, TOPA!!!

Hi girls, I can't even say that I've been lurking....but I've missed you all A LOT!!!

We've had a flurry of activity on the home front, and the most recent was a lawn mower accident with our Lab, Jedi. My entire day revolves around him.....and that's alright by me. Unfortunately, everything else falls to the wayside. Things are getting a bit better, only because I've worked out a routine to deal with it.....but it's a process......doh.....

I intend to be back to the norm soon....but my heart has been aching for not having checked in with you guys. I'll tell you more about the what's been going on, later....
