With the Wind
August 4
The beauty of the trees, the softness of the air, the fragrance of the grass speaks to me. The summit of the mountain, the thunder of the sky, the rhythm of the sea speaks to me. The faintness of the stars, the freshness of the morning dewdrop on the flower speaks to me. The strength of fire, the taste of salmon, the trail of the sun, and the life that never goes away, they speak to me, and my heart soars.

Hello, everybody. A Cruzer pizza place .... I'll be right there, Topa! :Yum: Good quote from Chief Dan George.

I saw this photo on the Dog Bless posting on FB. I forgot to write down the name of the photographer though. The puppies all look so cute at their swimming lesson. I actually didn't know that dogs could go for swimming lessons.

Here is a really rofl true story of a hummer from Ed Clark.....

Someone yesterday asked me to tell.... the hummingbird story... a true tale of discovery at WCV. When we first got started as WCV, we needed to make up tools and equipment as we went along. We had a hummer in that had hit a window and strained his shoulder. We needed him to NOT fly, but we could not figure out how to feed him. He would feed from a syringe, but reaching in would get him all worked up.

So, I devised a tube system.... I used an IV administration set...the things they hook up to give you fluids in the hospital. The drip chamber...where the fluid rate is controlled by the number of drops per minute, was the perfect "flower". So, I cut off the top of the chamber, leaving the tubing connected to the bottom and set it up in the cage on a wire stand. I ran the tube out the bars of the cage and connected a big syringe of sugar water (with protein added) to the tube. The hummer could walk up a little ramp, dip his beak into the cup and drink the juice. When it got low I would just push the syringe and fill up the cup again. Still with me..... Anyway.... that was fine for a few days, until one day I looked in and the hummer was lying on his back with both feet straight up in the air. I figured we had done out best, and reached in to remove the body.....

Much to my surprise, when I touched him, he roused, stood up, and shakily walked up the ramp, put his beak in the cup, took another looooong drink, looked around and promptly fell over again. At that point, someone entered the room and said.."It's a little early isn't it?" When I looked puzzled, she said, "It smells like wine in here!" I looked over to where the syringe of sugar water was lying on the window sill....in the sun.....bubbling... The solution had fermented, and the hummingbird was stone drunk! He would wake up, take another drink and pass out again. So, we changed the "juice", got our hummer sobered up and into a 12-step program, and learned to check and change our hummingbird nectar more often.

Note to Self: Don't leave a hummer feeder in direct sunlight unless you are changing the liquid constantly :ok:

Penny - Leave it up to Ed Clark to get a hummingbird sloshed rofl , love his sense of humour. :D

A bit of a rough day at the hospital this morning. I guess there are good days and bad days but it hurts me so much to see my Mom uncomfortable. :'( She got herself all worked up as her schedule was changed and she had a tummy ache, backache and headache. I spoke to her nurse who came in and calmed her down, made her go for a walk down the hall with her walker, and then put her back to bed where Mom settled down and was feeling better. I shouldn't complain but what will I be like at 99? :8O:

This morning another :<<o>>: was released at Mason Neck Park by WCV's Ed Clark

Posted Image :clk: for video
Image Donna M Eisenman

This young bird, hatched earlier this year, was found on the ground near its nest in Fort Washington, Maryland on May 20 and taken to a local rehabber. At the recommendation of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the eagle was ultimately brought to the Wildlife Center – in part because we were already treating several eagles of about the same age.

#11-1170 was admitted on June 5; the eagle had a painfully swollen tail and was missing a few feathers. Center vets started treating the bird with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and pain medication. The bird showed steady improvement, and by June 21 the eagle was ready to join two other young Bald Eagle patients in one leg of the Center’s largest outdoor flight pen.

While Mason Neck is relatively close to the Capital Beltway, the release site is on a peninsula in the Potomac River that provides prime habitat for Bald Eagles and other birds. The park connects to a 2,200-acre National Wildlife Refuge – created in 1969 to protect essential nesting, feeding, and roosting habitat for Bald Eagles. In fact, the refuge has been listed as one of the top 10 sites in the country for viewing Bald Eagles. And Mason Neck is a relatively short hop across the Potomac River from the site where the eagle was first rescued.

I have some ink jets never opened that we will never use-Canon BCI-24 in color & black. Three total. If someone has a Canon S200/S200SP/S200SX/S300/or S330 these will fit. Let me know.

I just finished donating all our miles on American Airlines & United to Hero miles for our troops & their families. When I figure out my US Airways acct. # I'll give those miles too. We will never have enough miles to get a free flight again so have decided this is the best use of them! :D

Carole :Hugs: I am so sorry your Mom had a bit of an 'OFF' day today. The nurse seems to know how to calm her down without meds though, and that is a blessing because so often they will administer meds that are not needed just to keep a patient quiet.

It is a very stressful time for all of you until she is in her new accommodation.

Take it easy :ok: Slowly, surely does the trick...or as an old Dutch proverb states...
