Bette I've been keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, even if I haven't been able to say so. :Hugs:

Penny, that's terrible about the mother bear and her cubs (is that right, the cubs, too???), and the poor, terrified yearling being killed. I tried to leave a comment, not sure if it worked, though. Most folks were saying that this was such a shame. I wanted to read the comments to see if folks were against what happened, or if it was hunters in there saying it was alright. Maybe the uproar will cause the RCMP to rethink their policy. :'(

I remember seeing black bears in the campgrounds in the Rockies as well as in Algonquin Park ...... nobody was shooting them. There were bear traps (those big, round tube cage thingies) with food inside so that they could be trapped and moved humanely.

re: the butterflies .... there were two of them ..... first photo shows the smaller one .... Robert just got a picture of a Mourning Cloak butterfly on the same plant .... popular plant today.

For those on FaceBook here's another Warning:

Posted Image :clk: for EVIL

Tom Scott's "Evil" page: "this site randomly displays the private phone numbers of unsuspecting Facebook users."

If you have synced a smart phone to your FB page every phone number on it will now be uploaded too. You need to go into your settings and erase every single phone number one by one to remove them.

What Facebook's app does is that it imports all the names and phone numbers you have on your (smart)phone and then uploads them to Facebook's Phonebook app.

Phone numbers are private and valuable. Most people who have entrusted you with their phone numbers assume you will keep them private and safe. If you were to ask your friends, family or co-workers if they are ok with you uploading their private phone numbers to be cross-referenced with other Facebook users, how many of them do you think would be ok with it?"

Facebook has taken and continues to take liberties on behalf of their users. Their perception of privacy and their users perception of privacy is often very different. Just another reason why I'm not on FB

Is your private phone number on Facebook? Probably. And so are your friends

Yep...read it and weep :'( and it was all over some bird seed

Some people have their heads so screwed up it makes me seasick

The CBC reported this story on their newscast last night mixing it up with the latest bear killed. This story is actually from 3 years ago but it is still so unbelievably sad :'( :'( :'(

Cottagers angry after bears shot

Your comment isn't on the other bear story :(

had a really nice visit with Rachel yesterday, we are planning her 21st Bday lunch.

HI KRIS! good to see you here! :X: things work out with the new landlord

Terrible, terrible story about the bears, gosh. what is it with people that have to reach for the gun first. Certainly bears can be 'conditioned' by spraying them with something to deter them away from people.

everyone have a great day!

Ozzie your cat tree looks fantastic. Where did you get that one? I would like to get the same one as a gift for my DS 's cat who is an indoor kitty. He could use it to escape from his new roommate...a largish mixed breed female dog who loves to 'play' with him

Moon May Outshine Perseid Meteor Shower in August
For those who look forward each summer to the annual performance
of the Perseid meteor shower in mid-August, there is some not-so-good
news this year.

The peak of this year’s display is due early Saturday morning (Aug. 13).
But as luck would have it, the moon will be full at that same time.
As a result, skywatchers should not expect to obtain meaningful meteor counts.

The meteors are called Perseids because they appear to emanate from the
constellation of Perseus, which in the predawn hours is high in the northeast sky.

These early morning hours are when the meteors themselves occur in good numbers.
Unfortunately, the moon, which will be lurking in the constellation of Aquarius, will be
the big bugaboo. It will be above the horizon for the entire night and will likely squelch
most of the meteor streaks with its bright light.
