ok back at getting caught up - can she do it (probably not) LOL 8/2 - Cheryl "vigil" in the OA is the third and highest level - you are "nominated" by a fellow member who thinks that you have provided outstanding service, selflessness - to scouting and community - a committee reviews the submission and if approved, the person is confirmed and they can choose to continue or to not do it. It is a very personal experience. The "nominee" and the sponsor (me this time) attend a brief ceremony where the person is told to take this time to look deep within ..... then the 2 of us - walk to a site in the woods that the sponsor has chosen - helps them start their fire - speaks briefly to them - and leaves the "nominee" for the night - to keep the vigil/to keep the fire burning all night/ to look within. The nominee is left with only a knife, appropriate clothing, a saw (but for older folks sometimes "extra" items are provided) - and the "nominee" must keep the fire burning all night until their sponsor comes for them in the morning at dawn when together, they extinguish the fire and go to another brief ceremony where their vigil is acknowledged and they are "awarded" vigil! It was a little scary when I did mine - sitting in the dark, in the woods, just a fire ..... but as the night goes on - you do begin to think, to reflect, and it can be a very powerful event - it's just you and your thoughts! I am grateful I had the opportunity and honestly, would like to do it again! (sorry so long) ![]() Cheryl what wonderful photos of your mom and the puppies! (who are quickly growing up) Topa - so happy that your dates worked out and a trip to see the little ones and family 8/3 - sunny Oxford Furnace Lake - what a great photo - really nice.... cheryl the crane photo is sooooooo cute 8/4 - topa wonderful first post - With the Wind Carole - wishing the best for your mom - I guess at that age you're entitled to have a cross day or two hope it's more smilie days though ![]() Jill what a great idea to donate your miles that way - I'll have to look into some of ours that we'll never use okay I'm up to 8/5 (not bad only 10 days cause of course I haven't read today's yet) waaaaaaah I'll keep at it but gotta do work at the moment - phooey |

Don't Forget To VOTE! ![]() Under Dr. Sharpe’s leadership, over 160 young bald eagles have taken their first flight on the Channel Islands and the population has grown to 14 breeding pair spread across 4 of the 8 Channel Islands and a total of 60-70 eagles. Thanks to the devotion of Dr. Sharpe, his predecessors, their numerous assistants, and government and private partners, the future survival of bald eagles on the Channel Islands is promising. Deb, when you spoke of the OA, are you talking about the Order of the Arrow?? My son is in that and I've been trying to remember that 'vigil', but ze leetle gray cells are losing their power, I guess. |

Hi everyone!!! Yay Team Toronto! Go, girls, go! ![]() Ozzie, your cat tower for the kitties looks like money well spent. Kris, good to hear from you! Hang in there!!!! Deb, thanks for the vigil explanation. Both you and your friend did so well to stay out in the dark all night during your individual vigils. I don't think I could do that. Thank you for delivering all the pretty flowers to Bette, Jill. I love broccoli soup, also. We got the kennel cough nasal spray treatment done on the dogs over a week ago since they have to be boarded soon. They had a reaction to it with 'reverse sneezing' which still hadn't worn off after 10 days. Today we took them in for an injection to get the inflammation settled so that they can get better. We had our hands full taking them in the doors because Wynn balked and Mia was the complete opposite, up on her hind legs and dancing all over the place and pulling forward. |
