For those that don't do Facebook, here is the Ojai Raptor Center's Facebook announcement about K-04/Avalon's arrival today: K-04, a female bald eagle (aka Avalon) will arrive at the raptor center today. She was born on the Two Harbors Nest on Catalina Island in Spring of last year and made her way to Washington State. In February of this year she was taken in by the Sarvey Wildlife Care Center in Arlington WA. She was identified by her orange tag, having been banded by Dr. Peter Sharpe's team. She was found to be dehydrated and suffering from a broken wing. Ultimately, it was decided that she cannot be released. ORC Director Kim Stroud was contacted and arrangements were made to send the eagle back to Ventura County! It's a Homecoming of sorts! Here is a picture of Avalon at Sarvey Wildlife Center ![]() Putting Avalon in the van to go to the airport yesterday ![]() Please Note: There are several more pictures of Avalon at Sarvey Wildlife Center in the IWS Eagle Alumni Sightings thread, pinned at the top of Nest Observations. |

Carol/sunnyland7 ~ Avalon did have her wing set and it healed, but it didn't heal well enough for her to be able to sustain flight, which she would need to hunt/feed herself in the wild. Thus the decision to make her an educational eagle. |
