The house smells so good, I made a big pot of bean and barley soup with fresh carrots and dill. Can't wait until tomorrow to eat it, it's always better the second day. |

The Generous Owl says Thank You ![]() ![]() After being injured in the wild, this owl was nursed back to health in a South African raptor center. After it had recovered and had been released, this thankful owl regularly returns with gifts of freshly killed rodents and snakes for the people who helped him, a cat that he befriended, and the other birds recuperating at the center

G'day peeps, my FRIDAY. We were scheduled to go to the Zoo today but the morning woke with rain, so no-go. darn, thats the 2nd time we've rescheduled and I really wanted to see those little Sumatran cubs. ![]() Good to hear your feeling better Deb, shame to miss the party, but better for you no doubt. -17F? The info on the horse meat is just shocking (and nauseating). Horses are such majestic animals. Has anyone seen the movie trailer for WarHorse? I saw it at the theater last week (we saw Anonymous), I was eating some popcorn when it came up on the screen and gasped in horror and choked on the popcorn. Eyes tearing both the movie Trailer and the popcorn, poor Bob had to pat me on the back. I dont think I can bring myself to see the movie. Rock Stars... Thanks for posting all the critter/bird photos today ladies (particularly the Po gif) |

Kris this is very interesting. I'll have to make another batch of cabbage/beet soup We usually eat coleslaw a lot in the summer and cabbage rolls in the winter. I'll have to make sure we eat more of it than we have been doing ![]() Carole believe it or not, I have never made bean and barley soup, but I make lots of others with beans in them the latest being:FAT BURNING SOUP 2 - 16 ounce cans ready cut tomatoes 1 large onion, chopped 1 - 32 ounce can beef broth, fat free (I used Vegetable broth) 1 package dry chicken noodle soup (I just threw in some whole wheat macaroni) 1 bunch celery, sliced 1 pound carrots, sliced 2 - 16 ounce cans green beans (I used mixed canned beans because I had them) 1 large green bell pepper 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper Parsley - optional Curry powder - optional (I used Turmeric) Salt - optional (I would not use any as there is enough in the canned tomatoes) Mix all recipe ingredients in a large stock pot. Bring fat burning soup recipe to a boil, then reduce heat and cook soup for 45 minutes. You can make half the amounts if you don't want as much in your freezer ![]() |

Lily the Black Bear - Update December 1, 2011 Still writing and a thank you Lily, Faith, and Hope - Spring 2011 Still feverishly typing words for the DNR report. A joy while staring at the computer, though, is seeing your great comments about the calendars, cards, and mouse pads. Thank you. A lot of people worked hard creating those items and are feeling rewarded. News from Pepsi. A leader in Eagles Nest Township had submitted a proposal to Pepsi for their next round of voting. It was to help this core area where the research bears live. It would have meant a rejuvenated well for the Town Hall, equipment for testing water quality in the beautiful lakes, equipment to boost the Volunteer Fire Department, and equipment for protecting bird feeders from bears and preventing bear problems. It was a solid proposal from a community that values its wildlife, clean lakes, and the rural quality of life in this beautiful area. We were looking forward to Lily fans showing their love of the bears and what the bears bring to the area through their fans. Not to be. Pepsi let the leader know that the proposal was not among the 1500 Pepsi selected for voting during December. A downer. On the up side. That relieves any competition for votes that Lily fans would like to direct to help the Northern Lights Wildlife Society in the semi-final round of the Aviva Contest which starts Monday Dec 5. They have made it to round 3 for a chance at the big money. Watch for a link to be posted soon. Thank you for all you do. —Lynn Rogers and Sue Mansfield, Biologists, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center |

Carole, we did end up going to the zoo, but unfortunately they were sleeping. So I saw one tail, two separate ears and that was it! darn! Mom was up, I'll post up some pics later. We definitely picked the wrong day to go, not only was there a State Transport picnic on but a no pay for school buses, so A LOT of people were there! I also meant to comment on Cabbage remedies. I had a terrible engorgement when Rachel was born and put cabbage leaves on my B****s. It worked! I too love cabbage (but the resultant wind is terrible )And Rachel was in Miami at last contact, should be in Arizona today or tomorrow for 5 days then LA for a couple of days before coming home. |

I ate Cole Slaw, steamed Cabbage, and any other form I could every day, because I had a trip planned six weeks from then to come to England; the one I met Ed on. My foot healed so fast and I credit the Cabbage Cure.
We usually eat coleslaw a lot in the summer and cabbage rolls in the winter. I'll have to make sure we eat more of it than we have been doing
