Poop trucks of Dubai
Amazingly, Dubai doesn't have a sewage infrastructure to support its skyscrapers, including the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Drivers said they'd been queuing for three days! Unsurprising then, that many dump their loads into storm drains that lead directly to the open sea. Tourists are warned of the risk of contracting serious illnesses like typhoid and hepatitis if swimming on Dubai beaches. Wikipedia on sanitation in Dubai.

Sorry, took the url out, didn't realize the guys narrating it were using foul language! :P

A RETROSPECTIVE IN 20 PARTS

World War II is the story of the 20th Century. The war officially lasted from 1939 until 1945, but the causes of the conflict and its horrible aftermath reverberated for decades in either direction. While feats of bravery and technological breakthroughs still inspire awe today, the majority of the war was dominated by unimaginable misery and destruction. In the late 1930s, the world's population was approximately 2 billion. In less than a decade, the war between the nations of the Axis Powers and the Allies resulted in some 80 million deaths -- killing off about 4 percent of the whole world.

Karen, I will keep David and Lindsay and the kidlets in my thoughts. Thank goodness his father is onboard and nearby to insist that he gets this checked out. How frustrating that they have to wait because of the insurance.

Good luck to NX. She will have so many people hoping for the best for her. :X: :X:

Kris, what a heartwarming story about the lions. <3 Fantastic photos, too. :clk:

Penny, we've had a sprinkling of snow but that's about it. :flk: :flk: Maybe it will go around Winnipeg. :)^

Poop trucks, ew. A wealthy country making no effort to be environmentally responsible, grr.

Ozzie, the little koalas look so serene. All the plants are such vivid shades of green while everything here is dull.

Topa, it was fun to see all the eagle peeps in your slideshow, and the critters, too.

Here are the whooper chicks enjoying some time in the water after their flight today. The costumes walked them to their travel pen after that.

I am not sure how many of you know about this but here is something you need to watch. This video will show you exactly how everything you are typing into your smart phone will be seen buy others....even your passwords, charge card numbers and private texts. :8O:

In a 17-minute video posted Monday on YouTube, Trevor Eckhart shows how the software – known as Carrier IQ – logs every text message, Google search and phone number typed on a wide variety of smart phones - including HTC, Blackberry, Nokia* and others - and reports them to the mobile phone carrier.

The application, which is labeled on Eckhart’s HTC smartphone as "HTC IQ Agent," also logs the URL of websites searched on the phone, even if the user intends to encrypt that data using a URL that begins with "HTTPS," Eckhart said.

The software always runs when Android operating system is running and users are unable to stop it.

Carrier IQ - The Spy AP (17:11)

Lots more info available here

Link to which phones have the Carrier IQ Spy Ap on them

JFYI: The standard way to remove an app does not work on this one

Lily the Black Bear - Update December 2, 2011

Verizon, Honey and Lucky, Writing

Posted Image
pond area at NABC

Two good pieces of news today. We received positive feedback from Verizon on cell service for the wild den cams, and Bill and Shirley Rice called to say they are buying all the necessary equipment to make the den cams a success. What can we say but “Thank you!” Bill is part of the den cam technology team. He personally made some of the equipment for last year’s den cam. This year he and Shirley are away and they’re helping with the cameras and equipment in this way. Everyone is doing all they can to get things going. Still waiting to hear if it’s possible to install a den cam at Juliet’s den.

Honey and Lucky are still together. Honey took a short stroll for a drink and small snack at 11:45 AM, giving Lucky a chance to steal some of her bedding. She wasn’t happy about it when she returned (jaw-clacking was heard), but she peacefully raked in more for herself from outside. Jaw clacking means a bear is scared and feeling high tension. It might be that she wanted to rake the bedding back from Lucky but didn’t dare. Ted didn’t stir today.

The Bear Center online Gift Shop is offering a special bonus for the month of December. Every order that includes one or more calendars will receive a free bumper sticker!

The link to help Northern Lights Wildlife Society with their voting which begins December 5 is here.

We are still writing....

Thank you for all you do.

Great day for the WC! :)^ :><:

Prayers for your family Karen.

We're having a BIG family lunch here at my small place tomorrow, 14 of Bob's family, its gonna be crowded! Spent all day cleaning and preparing.

Jillers, thats about the third time you've posted a funny picture that I saw just before within 24 hours, how weird is that. And read about the Dubai pooper trucks a couple of days ago, thats planning back to front instead of front to back!

Here are some more Zoo photos, some otters lovin' each other. There was a gaggle of silly school girls there and boy were they screaming about it.
