Whooper Update: The test trike went up and it looks like it is going to be a Down Day. Here is the view from the trike, now back on the ground. They are fortunate to have a generous small airport at this location that allows them to store the trikes inside.

I couldn't get on the forum yesterday morning to post. Then I got busy and never did get back here. There was no flight yesterday.

Hi Cheryl - The forum has been down for 1-1/2 days but it looks good now. :)^

I had the cam on when the test trikes went up and it was so foggy with a very low ceiling. Joe said that when this happens there is lots of humidity/water in the air and it is difficult for the whoopers to breathe and tires them out quickly. Another learning point today. :ok:

Glad you liked the RTH photos, he's a real cutie. Cubbie is going to be picked up today and released in the area they found him, I'll miss him but that's where he belongs. :X:

WOW that photo is beautiful

WCV CUBBIE UPDATE

December 13 update
Bear cub #11-2532 was shut in his den on the morning of December 13, to ensure that he will not eat in the hours before his sedation. At about 3:00 p.m., Dr. Miranda and team will go up and sedated the bear cub in preparation for his trip east.

OCEAN DEFENDER - Hawaii
The Armadillo Lizard. The natural habitat of this lizard is scrub and rocky outcrops. It is diurnal. It hides in rock cracks and crevices. It lives in social groups of up to 30 to 60, but usually fewer. Males are territorial, protecting a territory and mating with the females living there. The female gives birth to one or two live young; the species is one of the few lizards that does not lay eggs. The female may even feed her young, which is also unusual for a lizard.—

It's very nippy out this morning but -8C/18F is a lot warmer than usual for this time of the year in our neck of the woods.

Stay warm where ever you are :ok:

Carole I was sad when I read they were going to 'fast' the cubbie today because he would have to be sedated before his trip to the woods this afternoon. I hope they will leave him a nice pile of goodies for when he is let go tomorrow morning or at least give him something in his crate for when he wakes up

Carol I happened across a very interesting discussion about the 'irruption' of Snowy Owls all across the US.

Snowy Owls descend on Northland in search of food

Posted Image

" Already this year, hundreds of Snowy Owls have been spotted throughout Wisconsin and other parts of the US. When these "irruptions" or "invasions" occur it is usually because of a dip in the lemming populations in the far north. Lemmings are small rodents that make up a large part of Snowy Owl's diets. Lemmings go through cycles of high and low populations which influence the owls. In times of low populations, the owls are forced south in search of food. The last time an irruption such as this occurred was in 2006.

This year, the owls are moving south, but it is likely because the lemming populations over the summer were high allowing the owls to have a very successful breeding season. Now that all of those baby Snowies have grown up, they are becoming territorial and the young owls are forced to find territory elsewhere.

The Duluth News Tribune put out a little article about the latest Snowy Owl irruption and you can click this link to check it out."

I was worried about the one at MCR because it was perched on the ground and it turns out Snowy Owls do not perch in trees but prefer fence posts and the ground :D
