Deb, NYC always looks so pretty at Christmastime. Your photos are special because I know that you and Gary were right there enjoying everything. I shared them with Robert, too. I survived watching the dogs while the carpet was installed, but barely. I had the crate blocking the kitchen doorway but they jumped over it and charged upstairs. Mia went first. She's our Warrior Princess with no fear whatsoever. Normally there is a gate at the top of the steps but it was out so the men could get all the old/new carpet in and out. Anyway they charged in like whirlwinds. The men were good about it since they have dogs themselves. After that I put their leashes on and just kept them on the sofa. Robert called from the parking lot at school and I said that he needed to come straight home. They needed a long walk badly and I couldn't do that with the men there. Now we have a new queen-sized mattress on the new carpet, waiting for the furniture tomorrow. Our old furniture was built in 1977 and we never really liked it so we're really happy to have something new. The new carpet and furniture are made in Canada so I liked that, too. We kept our antique double-sized brass bed, just put it in one of the other bedrooms. Today we're taking the dogs to visit my MIL in the nursing home. People are allowed to bring their dogs to visit even if they aren't therapy dogs. I have a pretty fluffy Christmas necklace for Mia and Brynn's green Christmas collar with bells on it for Wynn. Hopefully my MIL will respond as she isn't talking much any more. |

Carole, good question. I had no idea how much work this would be, unloading closets partially and dresser drawers, shifting furniture around and getting Ian to pick up the old furniture on time, putting the old bed back together in the new bedroom, taking down the old curtains and valances and so on. I shouldn't have done this right now but the furniture, carpet and mattress were all on sale. The furniture in particular doesn't go on sale often. It is made by the Durham company somewhere here in Ontario. The other bedrooms are piled high with stuff. I want both of us (Robert especially) to sort through everything before putting it back. We won't be getting new curtains or a matching comforter for awhile, just using the blinds that are already there. I decided to keep the wallpaper because it would be too much work for Robert to remove it all and paint. It still looks really clean and nice. I looked into getting a crazy patchwork quilt made (not too many flowers, though, trying to get away from the 80's look) by the Mennonites. It takes 6 months to have one completed. I'm going to wait and think about it. |

To my wonderful, loving husband, Jim...thank you for 39 wonderful years together! We've had some rough times but many many wonderful times and I love you more today than the day we got married! God has truly blessed me! The day we got married it was hot! In the 80s, a beautiful day! Today is it cold so far, in the mid to high 40s. One of his friends ruined the heater in his '56 Chevy and we went to Vegas for our honeymoon. There was snow in Tejon Pass and Vegas was just as cold, tho no snow. We took blankets to wrap up in the car and extra socks to wear. We got home 3 days before Christmas and went to KMart to get our 1st tree as a married couple. It cost us $2.00 and was as dry as the Sahara Desert but it was a perfect shape and size for our small apartment. We had both our families over for dessert and I made cookies. I didn't have a rolling pin to roll out the dough so Jim showed me to use a glass to roll out the dough They came out great! These days we wouldn't have been able to fit all our family in that small apartment!! It would be wall to wall people! |

This is a petition to Japan's Prime Minister demanding that the misappropriated disaster funds taken to fund the unconscionable Whaling expedition and its security force be redirected back to the Earthquake and Tsunami victims, and that the government stop subsidizing the Whaling industry. It now has over 344,000 signatures with a target of 500,000.

Cheryl - It's never just buying new furniture and carpets for the house, it's all the work that is involved before and afterwards. You sound so organized and it will all get done in good time. No rush for the accessories either, never know when there is a good sale and then you can do your shopping. I think it is super that you "Bought Canadian", wish more people would consider this, it's so much better for the economy and people can keep their jobs, BRAVO TO YOU! Have a nice visit with your MIL, Wynn and Mia are sure to brighten up her day
