ANOTHER EAGLE WAS ADMITTED TO WCV (THIS MAKES ME SICK )Fauquier County Bald Eagle PATIENT: Bald Eagle, #11-2673 LOCATION OF RESCUE: Fauquier County, Virginia CIRCUMSTANCE OF ADMISSION: Found unable to fly ADMISSION DATE: December 29, 2011 PROGNOSIS: Poor On December 29, an immature Bald Eagle was spotted down in a field in Fauquier County. The bird was unable to fly, so the property owner called DGIF. A conservation police officer was dispatched to capture the bird; a dedicated Wildlife Center volunteer transporter drove to meet the officer and brought the eagle to Waynesboro. Upon admission, Dr. Miranda found no fractures or wounds on the Bald Eagle, though the bird was thin. An in-house lead test revealed that the eagle was positive for lead – with a result of .491 ppm, chelation therapy was started immediately. Dr. Miranda also gave the bird fluids and set it up in a small enclosure in the Center’s holding room. Though the Bald Eagle is not stable enough for anesthesia, Dr. Miranda will be taking a very quick set of “awake” radiographs, to see if there is any lead shot in the bird’s digestive tract. The eagle will be placed on the Center’s radiograph table and Dr. Miranda will don a lead gown and collar so that she may hold the eagle still while the x-rays are taken.

Yes ![]() Cruzers Carole it is just a crime that so many eagles have the lead poisoning problem ![]() Ed Clark was interviewed for a local paper and although he is a hunter himself, he made some very good points about being environmentally responsible when hunting. Don't let a bullet kill more than once |

Penny - Great article by Ed Clark but will hunters take heed to how dangerous it is for animals and birds that they are not shooting. Lots of lobbying is needed to do away with lead bullets and I wish the NRA would stand up for this.

Anyone who goes out and kills for "sport" has no credibility with me no matter what their "qualifications" or justification is. It upsets me that rescued creatures are in the hands of people with such a disconnect between the idea of "rescue and harvest".

A Baby Moose gets rescued ![]() ![]() "A baby moose was in distress in a creek. A man got him out of the creek; tried to find the mother and send him on his way, but eventually the moose stumbled back into the creek and had to be rescued again. The baby moose followed the man home. The man has only a small cabin so he took the moose to another neighbour, who took these photos. They took the moose the next day to a woman who looks after wild animals and she put it in a pen with a rescued fawn." Don't know where or when this all happened but it's a cute story and the guy's hoodie is still soaking wet ![]() |

It's a cute baby Moose but a tragic story. Baby lost Mommy, Mommy lost baby, but hopefully all will recover and survive somehow.

Kris I'm thinking maybe Mommy had more than one baby and didn't realize one of them couldn't get across the stream

G'day peeps! My New Years Eve Day. cloudy and spitting rain, but is suppose to clear. Having a few friends over but unfortunately the location we had last year to view the fireworks is blocked off this year so not sure where we are going to view them. Maybe I'll just get the ladder out and climb the roof (just kidding). Food will be quiche cups, turkish bread pizza, a couple of dips with chips and raw veggies. and Lots to Drink. I too agree with Kris, why be an animal rescuer but then turn around and shoot them.... Sweet story about saving the baby moose! See everyone NEXT YEAR |

Hi everybody. It's been a mild day here, nice to still be able to get outside for walking. The treadmill is so boring. Happy New Year, Ozzie. Your menu sounds very tasty. I hope you can find a location for viewing the fireworks. I always enjoy seeing the news celebrations when they show the fireworks going off everywhere. The ones at the Sydney Bridge are always spectacular.Mia's first birthday was today. Wynn's is tomorrow. I remember last year when we were so sad about Brynn and were waiting for news from Jenny that the puppies (Mia's group of 3) had arrived safely. We were like expectant parents. For New Year's we are going to try to figure out how to rent a movie from the TV. All the video rental stores nearby have gone out of business. It could take us the entire evening to get it right. Penny, thanks for the continued bear updates. ![]() |

whew - ES had the day off and so kind of did I (before I officially work for my new bosses who are still in FL for a few more days with the kids) anyway - ES offered to give me a hand with a few things at the office (and he hadn't seen my new digs yet) so off we went! he was a great help = fixed my chair which wasn't rolling well he replaced the wheels woo hoo - helped with some pictures and stuffTHEN most importantly, I have a new email address for work and have to learn a new program - couldn't figure out the auto add - did turn it off but couldn't figure out where to delete what it had added so far - he finally found it! awesome and I needed to set up folders to filter the mail to ...... couldn't figure that either so that meant we were probably going to have to synch with outlook but he finally found the folder section and we got it going so next week I'll finish sorting my email out and that should be all done then I needed to get some things for the new storage area etc so off we went shopping - finally found something that should work but won't be doing that now until Tuesday! so I treated him to lunch ..... hope this finds one and all well and special thoughts out to those who need oh yes - we indeed had din din at Dents - one of my favorite places - fried chicken/grits/potato salad topped off with their pineapple/coconut cake mmmmmmm and they sang to me...... |
