![]() art by Phil McDarby, digital artist http://www.philmcdarby.com/index.php/digital_art/detail/the_amber_dragons_hoard/ "I created the Amber Dragon a good while ago, and have spent a long time trying to create the perfect environment for him. I think I’ve started this image about 10 times at this stage! As with all my Wood Dragons, he is created in Photoshop, a combination of digital painting and elements of my own photography for texture. He is called the Amber Dragon as I based his eye on that wonderful golden substance. The original res is 9500px wide (it would print around 3 metres wide). The Robin is painted/textured using a combination of Robin references – I took some liberties with the eye/beak area as I discovered through the process that it’s quite difficult to make a bird look like it’s ‘looking’ at something – the lack of pupil is tricky! The Ant has spotted an opportunity and is making the most of the distracted Dragon. The background is a combination of painting and elements of my own shots - I was trying to capture a hint of faery architecture without overdoing it." |

Cheryl - Phil McDarby is such a creative artist, I like his whimsical approach to art and his honesty in how it was created.

Good Morning from the flock Cruzers![]() The wind was really howling last night rattling the windows but it has brought warmer temps again. It's -6C/21F rising to 0C/32F today and getting even warmer on Wednesday. Thursday is supposed to be a 'scorcher' at 6C/42F They are playing golf in the Dakotas because they have less on the ground than we do |

WCV UPDATE ON CHESAPEAKE EAGLE January 3 update Dr. Miranda reports that Bald Eagle #12-0001 appears to be slightly brighter today. Dr. Miranda has been unable to take “awake” radiographs since this eagle is a little more energetic — but she anticipates that the eagle will be stable enough for anesthetized radiographs on January 4. However, the staff knows that the Bald Eagle did have at least some buckshot in its GI tract — because rehabilitator Suzy found a lead pellet in the eagle’s feces this morning! The Bald Eagle has been eating several small meals of chopped mice each day, and Dr. Miranda is encouraged that things seem to be “moving through”.

![]() Cheryl, I loved the image of the "Amber Dragon" with the Robin! This year is the Chinese Year of the Water Dragon that begins on January 23, and portends to be a beneficent one. I've fallen in love with Robins since living here, and we have the cutest little Robin who'se claimed territory in our yard and now knows us and will stay within inches of us when we replenish the feeders. This is a through the window close cropped pic of our little friend. Not a good pic but you can see his plucky attitude as he owns the seed dish. We have so many standing Bird feeders and hanging ones that it seems every Bird in our neighborhood knows where to come for a meal. ![]() Carol I hope those Scrooges who make decisions where you live have found their hearts and will let you have your Bird feeders. If not for the Birds here our lives would be so much less enjoyable, and if anyone tried to take our feeders away we'd not "go gentle into that good night"!! My camera has developed an incredibly frustrating problem. And until I can work it out I can't take any more pics. We'll have to go to Salisbury and get the advice of a camera shop there. I'll have to learn Ed's camera in the mean time if I want to post any new pics. In this deepest of Winter this is a rare Arctic Fog Bow to lead into the light of Spring. |

Kris, your little robin does seem to be very perky and confident! I would like to see an English robin someday. I'll be checking out your water dragon link. Fantastic photo of a fog bow! - some encouraging news about the Chesapeake eagle, Carole .... now they also have some evidence about the lead shot if they ever have a chance to do a presentation or something We've had a lot of cardinals at our feeder - must be the weather because they usually don't hang out in groups. |

Kris - Do you have a sign in the front of your house "All Birds Welcome". Your little robin definitely has attitude. All your feathered friends are so lucky to have you and Ed.

I was so nervous while Maya was at the new groomer but all for nothing. When I picked her up she was playing with 4 other dogs and they told me she was a very good girl and had a fun time. It was like she had a play-date . They did a beautiful job on her but can't get a photo now, she fell asleep , too much excitement for one day. I will definitely use them again as my old groomer is just too far away and I wasn't that pleased with the last grooming job they did.
